Suffolk Bushcraft Group Daniel Boone Challenge 20th and 21st September 2013

Arriving home on Sunday, I unpacked my kit and divided it into the things I would take again and those that I would leave at home or not use at all. The worst piece of equipment I had was the Swedish WWII backpack. It sits nicely around the waist, but its narrow leather shoulder straps cut into...

Suffolk Bushcraft Group Daniel Boone Challenge 20th and 21st September 2013

I am not a fan of 18th century clothes eider. Though breech clout sounds interesting, especially in English woods and climate. I believe Stu would have some explanation to give to wood owners:). Saying that I would like to explore more traditional materials used outdoors such as wool. I was...

Suffolk Bushcraft Group Daniel Boone Challenge 20th and 21st September 2013

Keith Burgess, nice guy from Australia. Unfortunately he had an unpleasent encounter with one of the BushcraftUK forum members who was not very nice to him. He was questioning his hunting skills or similar...Since I have ot seen him being active on the forum. I e-mailed Keith few days ago with...

Suffolk Bushcraft Group Daniel Boone Challenge 20th and 21st September 2013

How about one night in pairs and the second together? From my experience, being on the move will test the gear much better then when just camping in one place. We could have a communal meal together on the second night. I am happy to bring along my cauldron and we can make a big stew from leftovers.

Suffolk Bushcraft Group Daniel Boone Challenge 20th and 21st September 2013

Thanks! I was looking to purchase an oil skin tarp, but the only people I found making them commercially is Tentsmiths in America (http://tentsmiths.com/tent-camp-accessories/oilskin-tarps.html). They are using cotton. I thought traditionally, in the 18th century, they were from hemp or...

Hi, I am looking forward to join you for the Daniel Boone challenge on 20th and 21st. Ngaio is staying home with children, as perhaps it would be a bit of challenge having a three year old and three months old with us. Though, not impossible:) However, they will drop me off on Friday and...
