eating freshwater fish (especially in the north east)

I take it you mean to gut & par the fish first, as I’m sure osmosis comes into effect? Which leads me onto another question.. salmon live in the sea & in fresh water, how’s that work?

    Instinctive Archery. Your experience please.

On occasions I’d let my arm drop as soon as I let fly. Hold steady for a second or two as bad habits can creep in. Not saying you are doing this, but it’s a very common problem.

eating freshwater fish (especially in the north east)

Of what I recall, fresh water fish tastes earthy, we used to lace them with a sauce of some kind. Then there’s the fine bones to contend with too. I’ve never tried a chalk stream fish though.. I wonder if there better?

If you had no ties and money wasn’t an issue, where would you move to?

Sometimes life throws a possibility & opens a door & my life’s dream is in my grasp. So I’m doing just that.. Abruzzo, Italy is on the cards.(can’t afford Tuscany). I’m learning the Italian language & currently on the search to buy a stone farm house with around four acres of land with orchard...

    Not quite a Seax.

Ok, I’ve been toying with the idea of converting my Terava Skrama knife into an Anglo Saxon seax(43cm currently). It’s got the design & weight there already, just a bit of cutting/fettling needed. Replacing the handle with antler or burl wood & cutting the end to more of a drop.but keeping the...

    What are you currently reading?

Since I was a young boy I’ve wanted an early edition of Charles Darwins the origin of species. So I proudly invested in an 1889 edition.. can’t afford the original. In reasonable condition, Smells beautiful, got a lovely creek when opened & it came with an brass book marker inscribed with the...

The "What is this bug?" thread

From what I can make out you are right, it’s a spotted crane fly(Tipulidea). It has no ocelli(simple eyes)& open anal cells on the wings(again only Tipulidea). Also the V shape formation on the thorax is a give away. There a a few that rest with their wings folded roof like. The only thing that...

    The rabbit stick

Similar thing here, I had a friend who had a kangaroo stick.. wow, that thing was like iron when he tapped it on my head for show.

    Burning wet logs / woods

However, don’t build the logs up to close to a home fire & definitely don’t dry out under the stove or on top..leave at least 6” I’ve come back to find mine smouldering away, so I was lucky, unless you want to wake up dead.

    Spoon Carving

Seasoned rhododendron wood is ok as it has very low amounts of toxins. I do believe it’s the leaves & flowers that carry most toxins, so best to wear gloves as the skin can absorb it. Be interesting what others think?

    Fjallraven Trousers?

Load of rubbish those Vida pro’s..catch your toe nail on them lace hooks when putting on? Catch your fingernail on the small thigh pocket button/stud when gushing your hand in to the hand warmer pockets, especially when the hands are cold? Why no option for knee pads? Get them wet & they take an...

    Shaggy parasol mushrooms

I was on my way to the woods & collided with a pheasant, so I stopped & debreasted it at the side of the road, when I noticed doom good size shaggy parasols..picked a few to cook with the pheasant & noticed a strange feeling like tiny acid drops on my face from smelling them. So I took it home...

    Oh dear, now what?

It’s the same where ever you go now. Green belts being moved, colossal industrial estates & massive housing estates being built on once farm lands. New bypasses which equals more building being built eventually. Flood plains being built on.. can’t get my head round that one? Any bit of spare...

Green Woodworking ASMR at its Best

ASMR,Autonomous sensory meridian response. There’s specific sounds/tingles that can give you a braingasm. Walking on leaves, camp fire, wood carving to name a few work for me when my brain is racing.

Long Evenings. What do you do?

Check out the history of your said device, it’ll blow most away how sad we really are? Literally hours & hours wasted gozzing at a screen when there’s a real world out there. I’m guilty too.
