    Fiddle Orchestra of Devon (FOOD)

Bit of a longshot here, but in case there are any fiddle players in the SW who fancy going, Wren music are starting a fiddle orchestra this weekend in Okehampton. Linky here: http://wrenmusic.co.uk/index.php/fiddle-orchestra-of-devon I know Becki who's running it and she's dead passionate (and...

    optimum one person natural shelter

good info, thanks. Would love to know more about your experiences bender living. I met a few crusties (who were doing the whole bender living thing) when I was at a few roads protests in the 90's, but I got a haircut and a job and went back to the "real world".

    No dig cultivation

I don't, but have been to a couple of places last year that do it on a commercial scale and am going to give it a try on a garden scale here (having a reorganisation here veg garden wise). It looks really good.

What wet weather gear for working outdoors do you use??

I wear an old wax cotton jacket. As sunndog said, in proper, all day full on rain I just accept that I'm going to get a bit wet. If you're working hard enough, you don't notice it till you get home.

Ebola confirmed in Glasgow, via Heathrow, Casablanca and Sierra leone

ebola is transmitted through bodily fluids, unless you are engaged in activities that are likely to mean you come into contact with infected bodily fluids, then the chances of you catching it are negligible. The cases of care givers catching it seem to be from failures in procedure, either...

Ebola confirmed in Glasgow, via Heathrow, Casablanca and Sierra leone

when I saw this I was all set to bug out to the hills, when I remembered I was already there. More practical, but nowhere near as dramatic as fleeing a city in chaos.

Planes, Trains and Toboggans - Jokkmokk 2013 - Sub Zero Trip Report

also first time I've seen this, thanks for the write up and (fantastic) pics. Good friend of mine is Finnish, and this time of year he loves to mock me by sending me pics of all the snow they have there (I send him pics of mud in return) and they always wake in me my desire to visit the frozen...

    Lovikka mitts

I remember reading in a Dales folk museum how the (male) lead miners would knit socks for the navy on the way to and from work. You'd have to have the balls off of several brass monkey to tell them it was women's work. When my left hand heals up a bit I'll have to nag mrs Tall to teach me. Bit...

    Lovikka mitts

excellent stuff, one day I'm going to learn to knit (it'll be quicker and more productive than nagging mrsTallM to do the knitting for me).

    Christmas Gifts

yup, you don't realise just how much of what you do with both hands that you don't think about, till you can't use one hand. Something simple like washing my hands has to be thought about now.

I'm not normally one of those who wish they lived somewhere else but...

I love where I live, half an hour from Dartmoor, half hour from the North Cornwall coast, really quiet, gets properly dark at night, very rural but, a Finnish friend of mine has just gone for his boxing day bike ride and sent me some pics, they've got over a foot of snow there now, and soon he's...

    Christmas Gifts

this year I got indigestion, same as last year actually. oh, and a dislocated finger courtesy of a fall down the stairs (though that was a few days before). Working out quite well actually, can't do much with my left hand, so mrs tallM is having to do all the baking, washing up, firewood...

Your feet shape may be an indication of your heritage

20 years ago maybe, sadly my physique is more Bacchus than Pan nowadays.

    Wonderful fiddle

lady in the folk orchestra I'm in occasionally brings a hammered dulcimer, really nice sound. I think she finds it a pain to haul around though, which is why she mostly plays low whistle. Guess you wouldn't want to knock it and get it out of tune either, looks like tuning is not a 1 minute job...
