    What is your favourite constellation?

I love The Plough and finding Polaris from it. The Seven Sisters are really beautiful and Casiopeia is an old friend... On really dark nights the Milky Way is a joy. The Romanies say that the way the stars shine can give you a clue to tomorrow's weather; except I can't remember what it is! :)

Air pistols: a feasible hunting tool?

one thing I would say about going after elephants with a Webley Nemesis, is that it would probably be a good idea to saw the trigger guard off first. That way it will hurt less when the elephant shoves the Webley up your ar5e.

Air pistols: a feasible hunting tool?

Amen to that! I've got an old Nemesis and it's rubbish. All the power output of a wet fart, but builds up your forearm muscles holding it up. I can;t hit the side of a barn door with it. I reckon if a stalked up behind a rabbit with it, I could club it to death with the butt! LOL! Anyone want to...

Survival is all about a good cup of tea

Old Comanche saying "Survival is all about a good cup of tea. But when you can make the guys two lattes, one mochachino (no cream) and an almond danish, you have achieved mastery" And most bush craft problems can be solved by asking yourself "Think! What would Jack Hargreaves do now?" :)

    Into the wild.

BOD, maybe I've used to strong a word there. They weren't monsters per se, but it's clear in the film at least, that McCandless was determined to separate himself not only from society but particularly his parents. He didn't contact them in the period between him leaving college and his death...

never mind Ray Mears, who remembers Jack Hargreaves?

Jack Hargreaves? What a legend! He was to wood craft what Fred Dineage is to local reporting! :) Oilyrag, I'll think of Jack next time I'm down in Sway - my daughter rides out in the New Forest there with a friend

    Into the wild.

I saw the movie last week and thought it very good. It is a poignant story of a damaged young man trying to overcome his past through contact with nature. He very much follows in the footsteps of Thoreau, Jack London et al. The film is beautifully shot and is quite long at over 2 hours, but I...

    Bushcrafting locations in the south

Thanks for that Jon, I didn't realise that the FC was particularly interested in the goings on here :o . I can slightly see their point that they don't know the difference between bushcrafters and the rest who leave burnt beer cans, engine oil, sofas and plastic bags full of poo!

    Hedgehog Spaghetti Marinara

Couldn't believe this in The Times but check this guy out! He even eats labrador! Fed up with Jamie? So try roadkill - rat or badger Hedgehog Spaghetti Marinara Serves 4. 500g spaghetti, 30ml olive oil, 250g lean hedgehog, 1 medium onion chopped, 125ml water, 60ml dry white...

    Bushcrafting locations in the south

I'm quite close to Farley Mount, which is an excellent wild area and I'm lucky enough to know one of the Rangers there. Getting permission for an overnighter with an open fire would be another matter though I'm sure! I've used my Kelly Kettle up there on a few occassions. They've had problems...

    Bushcrafting locations in the south

I hear what you're saying Daniel! I too am in Hampshire and lack suitable Bushcraft spots. Would love to hear of any going in my neck of the woods... Cheers

So how did you all get into this??

Well, I said I try not to get kit obsessed but still find myself in possession of bivi bag, hootchi, knives, a saw, an axe (LOL!), a dog! ;) Actually, I would say that a dog is real boon, as are horses. You can see much in an hour from the back of a horse...

So how did you all get into this??

My first post after lurking for quite a few months but I've been really interested by the replies already posted. My first venture into the craft was with Ray Mears of course about 6 years ago. Before that I had always had an attachment to the land but growing up in the city and with immediate...
