    Solar chargers - any good?

UPDATE: 6 months on, and I have still had no luck with the standard Feeloader on the iPhone... The Freeloader Pro, OTOH, seems to work fairly well, putting almost a full charge into the iPhone 4 from a fully charged unit. I now have a Freeloader Pro, and two clip-on battery packs which will...

who is using what binoculars l?

Any thoughts on 'Luger' branded binos, anyone?

who is using what binoculars l?

Santaman - I meant spotting scope... I've seen a few at around the 65mm to 80mm objective mark, some straight, some angled, and some fixed mag, some zoom... I had initially thought that they'd be a bit more versatile than binos (although more cumbersome to carry), and maybe have better eye...

who is using what binoculars l?

This might not be the place for this post - maybe it needs it's own thread, so any mods, please feel free to move it if necessary ... I currently can't make my mind up between a spotting scope or binos - do any of you have preferences (and why do you prefer one offer the other)? Also, are...

    Greetings from sunny Bolton

Haha, yes, sneaked in under the radar... Ta, mate - and yes, I've already managed to empty a large fraction of my wallet into Mr Lurch's pocket ;) - in return for some lovely shiny things, of course... Trouble is, I now have this urge to empty the rest of my wallet and pockets out and start...

    Geocaching on i-phone 4?

Steve - if there is no mobile signal, then there's no way you're downloading map segments... if the BB is displaying them, then they must have been cached on the phone. It's a bit like most other things you do while out and about... mostly an enjoyable waste of time, lol. TBH, it probably...

    Geocaching on i-phone 4?

I'm pretty sure that you can't download bits of the map in advance - unless it's a facility that the app itself offers. Also bear in mind that without a mobile phone signal, the iPhone may not be able to initialise the GPS from cold (cold start) - to save power/time it gets a rough fix from...

    Candle Lantern recommendations

I used to have a cracking little collapsible candle lantern that took the '9 hour' candles... It was a Northern Lights one, and cost me about 26quid, back in about 1994. Sadly, some thieving barsteward stole it during the night, a couple of years ago, after I inadvertently left it hanging from a...

    Tilly Lamp help needed please

Yep, MOF96 is a classic bit of kit - probably the only 1/4" worth having... Remind me, though - is it /only/ 1/4" or can you get 8mm (or 1/2") collets for it?

    Solar chargers - any good?

I concur with Spike - I have 2 Freeloaders, and one of the 'Supercharger', large, external panels - I ended up with 2 because I was convinced that the first one was knackered. My experience has been that it will put about half a charge into a Motorola V3, but I've never managed to get it to...

    best charity shop purchases

I just picked up a 2xAAA Maglite-a-like for 99p I thought at first it was just one of those cheap flimsy things that Poundland sell, but this is quite sturdy, has o-ring seals, and when I looked inside has a couple of AAA NiMH rechargeables :) Og

Vargo Titanium Hexagonal Wood Stove - Anyone tried it?

I think that's a bit harsh, Rik ;-) IIR my metallurgy lectures correctly, Titanium would be a slightly worse thermal conductor than /Mild/ Steel, but quite a bit better than Stainless... and Ti has a higher SHC, so it'll retain the heat longer (for an equal weight, LOL). None of this helps...

    Cheap dry bags?

Yes, I guess that carry straps (or rather, lack of) is a bit of a problem if theres a fair bit of kit in there.... And yes, certainly around here (Lancashire) they're in Aldi right now... Og

    Cheap dry bags?

These sound like a better deal than last year's model, then, ged - although they are pretty big at 44litre - as they're PVC laminated polyester with welded seams. They're branded 'Crane', but the labels says they're produced in China for Aldi... As you say, probably not as robust as the...

    Cheap dry bags?

Hi, all Just noticed that Aldi are doing cheap(?) 40litre drybags at the moment - £5.99 each and available in orange, yellow and blue. Has anyone else on here bought any of these, and what do you think? I've risked my arm for 2, but I'm not going to get much of a chance to test them for a...

2 quid? Blimey, I'm coming shopping with you next time I want any kit, LOL Have a scour of eBay for service kits and spares - I got a pile of stuff including a brand new preheater and jar, several mantles, a washer kit, and a 'full service kit' (washer kit, plus springs/knobs, etc.) for just...
