This might get long.....
well I've finally gotten settled in back in Canada after living in the UK for 2 1/2 years. While in the UK I really enjoyed coming into this site and learning a bit about bushcraft the way you fellers do it.
I'm a member of the "alberta traditional bowhunters...
Well it looks like I'll be moving back to Canada in July and my treasured stack of yew needs a loving home. I've got some nice billets to make take down or they can be spliced to make one piece bows. This is decent wood and is free of large knots. There are also a couple of staves, and they...
Well I'm chuffed, I sent some flint arrowheads to a buddy in canada and he made a handful of primitive arrows and a self bow and went out and killed himself a deer. So I can say that my heads have "made meat" very cool indeed.
Hello, a question for the blacksmiths! I've acquired an old ships nail that's big enough to form into a strike a lite and I can get a few more although they are quite corroded from being buried in the mud.
Would it work, is there enough carbon in an iron nail to produce sparks?
Thanks
On a different thread we were discussing different fire types and I mentioned I have a "cachelofen" Dan asked me to describe it and I thought I'd do it in a seperate thread...here goes.
A cachelofen is a German word and I'm not too sure what it actually means! It's a masonry heater though that...
I've been looking for a mosquito head net (preferably with steel hoops) and a cover to sleep under and they are hellishly expensive on this side of the world. Does anyone know of a cheap supplier of quality nets? I'm especially looking for a sleeping net that has a self supporting frame...
Hello folks, I keep reading this one and it gets repeated by every instructor I've ever heard. It's not true, the Canadian army did testing with the troops wearing cold weather gear but no headwear. So big heavy boots, mitts, arctic parkas-you get the picture. Then they measured the heat loss...
Well I'm sitting here in the UK on an expat deal with my wife and I've truly come to love this country but all good things must come to an end and the good news is this December I'm moving back to Canada. So that means the fall of 2013 I'm going to be moose hunting again!! I can't wait to get...
Hello, I've got a hard arkansas oilstone and it's a beauty! I've got 2 and can only use one at a time (funny that!) so I'd be willing to trade one. It's in a wooden box and very old about 8"x1 3/4" wide. These stones just don't wear out and it outlasted the last owner. I'm a professional...
Hello, I've got several sets of yew billets that can be spliced to make one piece bows or you can get a take down handle sleeve and have a nice take down self bow that will fit in a back pack for easy carry. I also have 2 or 3 full length logs that are beyond nice, tight growth rings and nice...
Folks the bannock idea has probably been beaten to death but I have a cool and vbery traditional way to mix it without making a mess so I though I would share it with everyone. I used to work at a hotel in Canada where we served bannock and the most people we made it for was about 2000...that's...
Hello, new member and first time poster. I'm interested in meeting fellow flint knappers in the SurreyWoking area. I went to see John Lord awhile back and we spent a great day together. Now I'm a bit hooked on this knapping stuff and wanted to know if there is anyone around the Woking area...
