    Buck Bantam BBW [Video review]

I've made a video review of a buck knife I've been using these past couple of months. I use it mainly for everyday jobs such as cutting open boxes, cutting tie-wraps and such. But this is the knife I always carry along. Hope you like it :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLUvTBUuV8c

    Camo-tarp, which one to choose?

As promised, a lil' comparison: DD 3x3 (~€ 35): -Multicam: pro’s: has camo, cheap, light (720g), large con’s: repeating pattern, reduced number of attachment points -Olive: pro’s: cheap, light (720g), large con’s: no camo UKMCPRO (~35): - Elite Evolution Basha: pro’s: available in...

    Camo-tarp, which one to choose?

I would prefer camo but if needed I would pick OD too. My budget isn't fixed but (obviously, I'm still Dutch :D ) cheaper is better. Set the maximum at € 75. Have to go to work but I'll make a list of all the things suggested alongs with pro's and con's.

    Camo-tarp, which one to choose?

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas. Found another one: http://www.bcbin.com/products/product_details.php?category=bushcraft&product=Bivouac The fox basha. It's relatively large (2 x 3), in dpm and weighs 700 grams. It also has 16 suspension points. But I can only find one review (on...

    Camo-tarp, which one to choose?

I like the UL 10x10, both in woodland and in multicam. Multicam is almost twice as much though. And I need to pay shipping (~35-40) and VAT (€12,5 + 19% of tarp price). So unless they have a European dealer it's a bit too much.

    Camo-tarp, which one to choose?

Hmm, I thought the webtex might be too small, so that's not going to be the one then. And I also rather not use a tarp + camonet. I'd have to put two things up (even if just throwing it over the tarp) and it looks (imo :) ) very aggressive. The Ray Mears / Aussie basha might be an option...

    Camo-tarp, which one to choose?

This summer I bought a DD hammock for myself and having been using it since. I'm using it with a flecktarn tarp, which is very heavy (around 1.4-1.5 kg). This is rather unpleasant so I'm looking for a new tarp. I've got a couple of requirements: - camouflage-pattern - lightweight (900 grams...

    Carbon knives maintenance oil

I've recently bought two High Carbon steel knives. I've done a bit of reading and most sites recommend a mineral oil wipe after using them. One of the knives will be used (among things) to cut food with. I've done a bit of searching but I cannot find mineral oil in shops here (or it has a...

First kit - Questions and comments

Thanks for all the replies ! I should add that I just summed up the kit specifically for bushcraft. Camping equipment such as a tent (lightweight 1.8 kg), bivy bag (U.S. Army issue Goretex bivy), sleeping pad, several sleeping bags (summer and 3 season) , 70l backpack, boots, all those things...

First kit - Questions and comments

Today I have started getting my (first) kit together for my holiday next year (to central Sweden). I'm going there with some friends for about 2-2,5 weeks to hike and camp out in the woods. I want to use (and practice) some bushcraftskills such as firemaking and making a shelter from natural...

    What Watch (With specifics)

You could look into the garmin forerunner series, most of them have gps, other funtions vary per model. Suunto also makes some models with GPS, such as the X-10. These are waterproof and can also measure temperature.

    woods - eating and cooking

Hi guys, Been working on an excel sheet of this information. The first sheet is in English, the second one in Dutch (more useful to me ;) ) I really like jdlenton's suggestion, especially the information for the drills would be much appreciated but all other tips are welcome too. Let's make...

    What are you working on?

I'm currently working on another two can stoves. One is a sideburner, other one a regular chimney-type. After this I'll probably have a go at making a compact set of can stove + windshield/stand.

    Why foraging

The main thing I forage are nuts. Mainly chestnuts and walnuts but also the occasional acorn. I give them to my dad who makes salad dressings and oils/flavoured vinegar from them. Other than this and the occasional fruit I do not forage much. The main reason for using these are the...

    Spider Attack Video

Hehe, very nice. I wonder if the spider came back to pick up the ant also. Looks like one of those jumpy spiders.

    Have you heard about Estonia?

Very nice intro !! Haven't heard of many people that went your country to camp. Do you get a lot of tourists a year?

    Fear of the dark

Do tell ! But I wonder if any seriously compromising equipment is left in a foxhole and not a secured compound or bunker. Often you get this tingly feeling when you are being watched. You feel uneasy, hairs on the back of your neck stand up etc. This and the psyche can explain most, if not...

Housleek for bites, stings, cuts, scrapes, and burns

If you are talking about this plant (sorry, but my knowledge of plant names in English isn't too great), it's best if you do not keep it in pure soil but more in between rocks or pebbles. I have a couple of them growing near the pond on pebbles and they grow very well.

    sleeping bag at home

I often pitch my tent in the backyard in the summer. My room is on the 3rd floor but when I use my airco it's either too cold or it's just right but it warms up too fast and I get too hot again. When sleeping in the tent it's a nice cool temperature, much better. It also saves on the electrical...
