Long Evenings. What do you do?

By sound or light? I used to be handy at light signals, a slow professional speed, but never learned to do it by sound. Quite a different skill set oddly enough. Best of luck, it's fun once you get into it. Like knots, it needs regular practice to keep you sharp.

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

I like the idea of the alarmed padlock from Halfords, but they get very mixed reviews on the website.

    What is your sleepwear?

Quite a few people I camp with seem to sleep with their clothes on when out in the woods overnighting, others go for thermal underwear, some, allegedly, just sleep as nature intended them to be. I go for the thermals route myself, but it's never fun getting changed out of campfire cosy clothing...

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

Anyone got a recommendation for an alarm for a garage back door? Something uncomplicated but effective.

    What are you currently reading?

'Iron Coffins: A Personal Account Of The German U-boat Battles Of World War II' by H Werner. An interesting read from the German perspective. As a former merchant navy officer I have a particular dislike for Uboats and their crews. Interesting to note that they always talked about the number...

    What are you currently reading?

Recently finished 'Two Years Before the Mast' by Richard Dana. The story of an American seaman in the 1830s who sailed round the horn to California (then still owned by the Mexicans) and how life on the Californian coast was in those times. A truly fascinating read and one I will return to. I...

William Cecil Slingsby. My great, great grandfather was one of his mountain guides in Norway and they have mountains named after each other, side by side. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Cecil_Slingsby

Group Buy DD Hammocks group buy 2020

Mine package arrived safe and sound. Only problem is the wife knows about it and I have to call it a birthday present instead of just "no dear, I've had that for ages now..." :D

    Garden camp out.

At lot of people on FB groups are doing exactly this on Saturday night and posting images of their camps. It's a nice distraction in these difficult times.

Day Out Sun's out, fun's out.

A trip out to test my new DD multicam tarp, as sourced via the excellent BCUK group buy. This is a little hill just inside the Dublin county border that is used by dog walkers and mountain bikers in the main, but still possible to find some quiet corners off the beaten track. The March...

Alternatives to a DSLR, what do you use?

Huawei phone, one of the reasons I bought it was the Leica lenses. The Chinese can spy on my Instagram channel all they want, as long as they damn well like my photos. :D Battery life is outstanding also.

    DIY logo design

I am toying with the idea of having a go at putting together a social media channel (mostly Instagram) for my bushcrafting activities and wondered if anyone could recommend a simple and user friendly (i.e. noob) graphics website that I could use to design a simple logo? I have a rough idea in...
