    Recolouring Antlers

I regularly colour antler by steeping in very strong, hot tea (after cutting, and finishing the object). Sometimes as long as 24 hours. Works well and different teas give various shades of brown or reddish brown.

    Making a packframe

I have made a couple now. These might not be what you are looking for but could spur on some ideas. Mk I, Mk II, and some other ideas from last fall: https://paleotool.com/2018/10/19/wooden-packframe/

    Leather bushcraft pack MKII

I know wI'm a bit late to the party but outstanding work, as usual! Two questions (I hope I didn't miss these somewhere along the way): What are the approximate dimensions of the main body of the pack and what leather did you use? I am planning a new leather pack as I sold my older one. I...

    Quiver

Finished up a quiver that has sat, incomplete for quite some time. Too many projects to distract.

    Awls

Just reading this thread over lunch before getting back to some leather work so I threw my piercing tools out for a quick photo. The little skinny awl with the knob handle in the upper right does the great majority of sewing for me. This awl is some sort of industrial needle set into a...

    Bucksaw and Woodworking Saw

I generally reserve the "turning saw" label for the pivoting narrow-bladed species. Essentially the same thing though! And a damned handy tool.

    Shave Horses

Thanks all. I get so lost in the really "primitive" stuff that I forget the tools are at least as interesting as the products they produce.

    Shave Horses

A few horses I've made over the years. I can't find any photos of the oldest one. It was very small to fit in a vehicle but I liked it a lot. Sold a few years ago to a fellow bowyer. Made for a woodworker. It lives near Portland, Oregon now. Made from a storm downed tree. My current...

    Bucksaw and Woodworking Saw

Just wanted to post a new woodworking/camping saw. I've been carrying it all summer but finally getting it finished up. Hope to make a "how to" for the next one. Made from some up-cycled scraps and a cut up band saw blade. A bucksaw firewood blade is also available for rough work. The...

    Skin on Kayak

Awesome. I have wanted to do this for many years. I can't wait to see more photos as it progresses.

    And yet, Another Bucksaw

The only other parts used were two screws and square nuts to hold the blade. I could have done it with metal pins but the screws were readily available.

    And yet, Another Bucksaw

Plenty of saws out there but here is my recent creation. 21" blade, hickory parts, paracord for tension. The wood was split out with a froe then sided on a table saw due to laziness. paleotool.com

Sewing Kit and a Couple New Tools

Always inspired to read the DIY and Traditional Crafts threads so I wanted to add something new. A new sewing kit, a couple new awls, needles, and a needle case from rivercane. I wrote a blog entry about it here if you are interested http://paleotool.com/2012/08/05/sewing-kit/.

    a question to the bowyers

What is the second photo showing? It's hard to tell from the photo. Maybe you could split it again but I think not. That will give you more wiggle room making the bow. Also, why did you take the sapwood? With the small diameter of the stave it might have been better to work the outer...
