    back home i wash my blades with soap and old teethbrush, and wipe with piece of cloth . for storage i use duck fat, wich is an edible (and tasty)grease... blade out of sheath, in a cardboard one home made.

    the hardest part of charcloth making is allways to find the tin, so a paint can is cool, and if you don't have, to tins(same size) are a good option one to store the cloth and the other one a hole in the bottom is used as a lid... both must be piled just like in the super market heat seals them...

    as you are in a pine area it's also time to check for some resin, old injuried tree will bleed and resine will cure as its getting down, on the trunk. pick it using bare hand and a hatchet to pry off as it's a bit hard to do sometimes. put into a old can and get a fire started to make it...

    an easy way to pick up fatwood is Something mentioned by uncle Ray, but cropped another way... the famous pine notch, where branches meet the trunk of a Fallen resinous. i use to cut it with chainsaw, but i guess it can be done a more bushcraftic way with axe and saw...

    to weld cast iron it good to use steel welding rods on a warmed up oven, you can also have a go on a fire with a oiled Dutch oven to get rid of rust on the outside and have a nice patina on it for the price of a good camp fire! don't know how old this post is! sorry to excave it!
