    Decent metal water bottle

you can look at vargo, guyot designs, and nalgene. there are many brands. just make sure that they are single and not double wall bottles. there are also some titanium bottles on the market now. they are expensive but they are very lightweight.

European clothing vs. North American clothing.

lately I've been thinking of buying a pair of Fjallraven Vidda Pro Trousers. I'm not sure why but to me it looks like I can buy better waterproof clothing on the European side of the pond. Who uses these trousers, and what do you think of them? are they durable? can anyone recommend any...

    Best phone for gps

IMHO, buy a separate GPS. why? because if your batteries in one device dies, you will still have the other. gpsphone dies? not only will you get lost, but you won't be able to call for help either... either that, or buy a good compass, and learn how to use it. :)

    Crusader cup

the crusader set is ok if you don't mind the weight and don't have plans to fry eggs in it. I like the plastic bottle because it is lighter than SS and quite durable. the cup/bottle is a great setup for water boiling, and instant dehydrated meals. from the research I have done, the plastic lid...

frying pan with a removable handle.

+1 on the msr frypan. I also sometimes use the lid from an alpine set. its' a bit awkward to use at first when you first use the 'gripper', but it works fine for 1-2 people. :)

What to use instead or paracord for guy lines

hey Bill, is there a specific reason you don't like paracord? I used to use it all the time, but moved onto 3/32" tactical paracord. its' still pretty strong rated at 275lbs, and half the weight/bulk. :) http://www.shoprobbys.com/275-Tactical-332-Paracord-100ft_p_228.html IMO, it works great...

Best 3 season sleeping bag for under £100?

I would recommend a military sleep system. it is a series of bags that go inside one another depending on how cold it is. use the inner bag for summer and fall; use 2 bags for winter. the USA uses them; I would be surprised if the UK or Swedish military didn't use the same kind of system...

    Survival kit madness

+1 agreed. make a list of what you need, and buy better quality items yourself. when you get it all together, put it all inside a plastic bag, to get an idea of the volume of a container to put it all in. :)

Lofty wiseman type survival pouch question

for me it is a personal thing. if I'm solo(most of the time), i'll take minimal gear. why carry the extra weight of another pot when the pouch pot will work just fine? I guess it's up to you. wiseman's survival pouch is interesting, but a bit 'dated'. the concept is GREAT! :) if I made a...

    Recommend me a hiking stove

I've owned and abused my whisperlite international for over 10 years. and it still works fine. I recommend buying a small bottle for it. the larger ones are kinda bulky. another option would be build your own. look at http://zenstoves.net/. :)

    Advise on DSLR.

agreed on the D300. they are a great camera and will give your daughter a lot of options. DX lenses are RELATIVELY inexpensive, compared to FX. another option would be a simple D80 with a 50mm f1.8. best of luck. :)

Any night shift workers on here?

I've worked mostly night shifts for about 20 years. they are fine to start, but get old pretty fast. I prefer to graveyard shift 11pm-7am, over the afternoon shift. at least then, you can enjoy the sunrise every morning. :)
