New Year Shakedown - New Forest

Hrm... Camera - Olympus OM1... Film camera, deeply wrapped in watertight stuff sacks for fear of ruining it. Not ideal really. Smartwool aye, I'll have a look.

Can I have some recommendations on Boots please?

I've just been waxing lyrical about my Asolo 535s, they've done me well for snow/crampon work, bush work, river work for 3.5 years... I'm not keen on waterproofing - because when, not if, WHEN your boots soak through (in a ford, river, puddle) then they're just heavy buckets.

New Year Shakedown - New Forest

After a long stint of lazy-induced-feckless-sedentary-chocolate-eating-wasting ... I decided to shakedown my gear and shakeup my legs! I thought I'd review my gear as I walked: Boots - Asolo 535 - 80% Perfect as always, but when they finally die I'll consider a lighter, easier to wet...

I kept buying various sleeping bags on trademe (NZ ebayesque site) and various discount stores... I should've saved up for a decent bag!

    superglue

I've been using superglue for 10 years. For cracked heels, after a good rasping. For small cuts on very mobile areas that keep opening up. On my cat's fight wounds. It's manna from heaven for things like that!

Does anybody else hate DPM ?

I usually feel a bit silly wearing my DPM anorak, but, it's all the Goretex I could afford! I have gone out of my way to give it FLUORO-LIME-GREEN (that bright) hood and hem pullcords, I'm thinking of something equally un-mil for the flash...

    Home made tarp

I made my first tarp at home, joining two pieces of fabric with a rolled join then just stitched down the middle, I used a waterproofing gel any leaks observed. The tie out points survived pretty well, I used a circular reinforcement patch with a thin tape tie out. 30 cm reinforcement...

I thought my compass was buggered!

After packing up my tramping gear and shipping it up here from NZ I noticed my compass had a serious lean to it. Dangerously so, because it would stick and not swing freely if held level! I thought it had some been stuffed up in shipping... Turns out that it's just not balanced for...
