hey man, another slow reply, rarely visit the blog these days as i don't get a chance to go out. yeah, I'm up on the Bath/Bristol area. Hence I've also moved to lead at a different scout group. They're not that hot on their outdoor skills but I'm looking forward to stripping back to basics and...

Hey Dude, sorry about the late reply, uni student bogged down with everyday life and all that. not been out in ages. Yeah basically i believe the policy on campfires is as long as it's cleaned up properly (i trust you know how) you can pretty much do what you want as long as you're sensible. the...

    Mats that work with hammocks

Ok, i've been hammocking for nearly 3 years now and i've been using a DD camping hammock with a full length self-inflating roll mat for 2 of those. i find that if i lay the mat on top of the hammock it's disappeared by the morning but if i slide it inside the hammock and zip it shut it stays...

How much paracord do you need for Tarps?

i have 2x 8m lengths, one for the reidgeline and the other strung under the tarp to hold my smalls and things i'll need in the night. where can i buy some decent sharpening wet stones cheap

i've got the Axminster japanese 1000/6000 and it is brilliant. a good tip is to hold it still in a board with a few pins and remember to flush the surface regularly.

    netted hammocks

Netted Hammocks are only good for 2 things, hanging gear and making shoelaces. think of your hammock as an investment. i went for a DD camping hammock cos i'm just over 6' but if you're shorter the scout is perfect for you. *not affiliated bla bla bla*

Kit and clothes hangers - how do you stow your kit when hammocking ?

anything i need in the night goes in my hammock storage bag which hangs on a second ridgeline suspended underneath my tarp. anything i don't need goes in a "hang-out hammock" which i bought off amazon cos they were dirt cheap, which hangs underneath my main hammock.

    Dry Bag Help

i bought Karrimor ones from sports world when they were on sale. fantastic kit, really cheap and all my kit has been bone dry even after i left it outside overnight in a thunderstorm. :) cheap doesn't have to be rubbish. also they come in different sizes and colours so you know what's in what.

    How Waterproof are Rucksack Covers?

I used a Berghaus freeflow 20 when i did a 60 mile endurance hike across the south downs and never bothered with dry bags etc. the cover worked perfectly and didn't flap around in high winds if it's fitted properly. as for water getting into the back of the bag, your back tends to stop any water...

    Burning Meths and Carbon Monoxide?

ok firstly, CO (carbon monoxide) is produced as a result of incomplete combustion. this is because there is not enough oxygen, in theory there shouldn't be any carbon monoxide produced but the fact is there will be trace amounts produced. the best thing i can say is better safe than sorry, try...
