Knife and axe injuries (gory photo alert)

Never cut myself that much/deep so I'm wondering how long did it take before it stopped bleeding? How much blood loss occurred? Especially in the last one the wound it quite open to the point that you can see (I think) fatty tissue inside. This means that it went through your epidermis and...

    Solo Adirondacks Trip

If there's three things I miss about the US that's, 1) the weather (go from Florida to Washington and you'll go from down filled jackets to shorts and t-shirts in about 1000miles) 2) You can go around in most city centres with you rifle, shotgun, handgun (covert/overt depending on legislation)...

    The Romance of Bushcraft...

I'm pretty sure that's what it used to be told during the cold war era, different reasons, same end result. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure none of the above are going to happen, and I'm saying unfortunately because although I might cost mine or my descendants life, I'd love to be there the day...

The story of the axe and the elbow

Found another item with the same logo, which makes me to assume that "Parks Biped" was an old smithy or something and the number identifies the product...

Advice needed on where to get high carbon steel

My grandfather was a blacksmith, we would go to the scrapyards early in the morning and in a half a day he would have collected all the metal we'd need for a few weeks. He would even buy proper rusted metal, he used to say that a good blacksmith can take this and turn it into a beautiful strong...

    Stealth bushcraft

How often do you do that? Also, if and only if you don't mind, can I ask why? Really no offence implied or meant, I'm just excruciatingly curious. Oh yea, First aid kit would be a must, just in case.

There is definitely no substitute to learning by error, we've all been there as kids :)

Mora clipper and opinel kids knife.

I'm already planning on getting one of the "My First Victorinox" knifes for my kid (whenever I have one). What scares me is the legality of getting a boy his first knife, something that used to be a tradition amongst fathers and sons, might just die in fear of a paranoid mass about knife...

    Sit Awhile...

I tend to use my orange "survival" bag, although the colour hurts my eyes it has it's purpose I guess and being plastic it keeps me try. I will either throw it over a log or straight on the damp ground. - I look a bit like an *** but it keeps mine dry!

Reason to grow a beard #184.

Same here, SWMBO does not allow. Full Stop! But to be honest, if it was the other way around, it would have the same result with me. :lmao:

    The Romance of Bushcraft...

I have to agree strangely enough with all of the above. For me it's a multiple of reasons that work with each other: 1) Romanticism - Nobody should be able to deny this; Romance makes us fools and fools do stupid things, and to leave a warm and save house and hot meal to go and struggle...

    Cleanwater purification bag

Dunno but it says: "The filter is impregnated with colloidal silver which removes 99.99% of all disease-causing bacteria and cysts"! As far as I'm aware the only safe way to purify is either Iodine or Chlorine, preferably Iodine. Collodial Silver as far as I can recall is snake oil...
