Any Guildfordians about? I'm looking into the idea of making use of the Chantry Wood Campsite for meets.

    Chaga? ID

Excellent, thanks Toddy. I broke it up into smaller chunks and It's been drying in the airing cupboard - I didn't bother removing the outer crust as I plan to just add it to my tinder pile. Very interested to see what it's like compared to Cramp Ball.

    Chaga? ID

I hope no one minds me raising this thread from the dead but it just so happens I stumbled across what I believed to be chaga - in Surrey also. One of the 'conks' was loose so I had to investigate further. Knowing nothing about chaga other than hearing and seeing it mentioned a lot and it's...

    Finding a lost dog

Cheers, all good info. So far it looks like the owner and an army of people online have contacted surrounding vets, shelters, dog warden, schools so on so forth - Sounds promising as far as spreading the word and so on and looks like they've had a sighting 5 miles away. (I have also contacted...

    Finding a lost dog

Hi, Looking for a lost dog, not my own, but a strangers... I'm signed up to doglost.co.uk to be alerted when a dog goes missing around my local area, this was absolutely with the intention that I could give my evening wanderings a sense of purpose - and a good (forfilling) excuse to get out...

    HELP! Dog Separation Anxiety

Worked for us. Our pup cried at night, we put her in our room at the end of our bed in her crate and there was not even a peep. After a few nights we just plonked her crate downstairs and she didn't make a peep. (Granted we didn't do the creep the crate out the room thing and went made her go...

    HELP! Dog Separation Anxiety

I totally understand why you are not following the 'self soothing' option if your neighbours are getting upset so here are some thoughts of mine - I'm no dog trainer so take them with a pinch of salt (I'm sure you'd appreciate any ideas at this point!) - Got a 2 1/2 year old cocker myself :)...

Seeking a paltry amount of poultry advice.

Cheers all, I have a book 'Choosing and Keeping Chickens' by Chris Graham (in association with practical poultry magazine). It does go into a bit about the run or scratching shed mentioning gravel or chippings but not much more than that and even so it was tailored more towards a run with a mud...

Seeking a paltry amount of poultry advice.

I see. So if I were to go with sharp sand then the bit I am unsure about is how I go about cleaning it? With the wood chips I thought I could just dig the whole lot out and take it to my allotment compost heap. With the sand option I am not sure how to go about keeping it clean? Other than...

Seeking a paltry amount of poultry advice.

It crossed my mind, but I settled on keeping them so I had a real secure run from predators - my neighbours have lost chickens to foxes and their neighbours lost ducks to a fox. So for those days when I may not be back to lock them up at night I like the idea of being able to have them out in...

Seeking a paltry amount of poultry advice.

I suppose if I start with the dirt and change my mind I can always shovel it all out easy enough! Also, I suppose I'm actaully in a bit of confusion about how many chickens I could ideally fit in there The run is 8' x 6' (The coop is raised on a table so they get the full 8' x 6' ground space)...

Seeking a paltry amount of poultry advice.

Hi All, I was fortunate enough to get a hold of a greenhouse frame and chicken coop on freecycle and since the manky old shed in the back of our garden was at the brink of toppling over I decided it was the perfect place for the chickens to go. Just trying to decide on what to cover the...

Bonded Polyester/Bonded Nylon (20s/40s/60s) What are the NNs numbers?

:) Me too, I have been using 40s also with 110/18 needles - but seen a few references to 60s so wondered about dropping down to a 100/16 needle with 60s thread, perhaps for the lighter projects. I think perhaps I was just getting a bit rainman over the numbers!

Bonded Polyester/Bonded Nylon (20s/40s/60s) What are the NNs numbers?

I think(!) I have worked it out finally. These numbers are ticket numbers and is a metric system which denotes the length of thread which weighs 3grams - how bizarre :) So, the higher the number, the finer the thread TKT = 1000/TEX*3 1000/138*3 = 21.74 (20s) 1000/70*3 = 42.86 (40s) 1000/45*3...

Bonded Polyester/Bonded Nylon (20s/40s/60s) What are the NNs numbers?

Hi, I'm looking at bonded nylon/polyester thread and I just can't work out what the NNs sizes mean? I know what they relate to in terms of Tex but I just can't work out what the 20s, 40s, 60s numbers mean? I understand the NNs relates to the size/weight of the thread but I can't work out...
