    Why use this?

My wife and I shared a hammock once. She said to me, "If this thing rolls over will we fall out?" I replied......"No Honey. I'd still love you".........rofl

    Gelert Solo tent

I have one of these wee tents too and find it fantastic for simple overnighters. A great wee tent at a good price. The only bug that I have is that the door opens on the right hand side whilst my sleeping bag opens on the left. It takes a bit of grunting and shuffling to get my ample frame...

Heads up - good movie on TCM

"Does anyone know if 'Man in the Wilderness' with Richard Harris (Channel 5 on Saturday) is equally good?" I just read the watchers reviews of this movie on www.imdb.com and they all say that it is a great movie. I will indeed be watching this one. Alan.

Heads up - good movie on TCM

Hi....just thought I'd let people know....a great movie running on TCM at the moment - Jeremiah Johnston, starring Robert Redford. It was on this afternoon but should be repeated several times over the next week or so. Great outdoor / wilderness movie. Worth watching. Alan.

    Decent solo lightweight tent advice.

"Hi, i'd take a look at the gelert solo a great little tent for £25 theres a place called winfields that sell them online" I bought the Gelert 1 man tent and thought it was great - apart from one tiny awkward detail. The opening on the one that I got was on the right hand side and my...

Does anybody know much about digiscoping?

Hi. I also do a bit of this kinda stuff but only for the nightsky. It's also known as Astrophotography. I bought an adapter off Evilbay to fit my Nikon D40 onto my Meade ETX Telescope for about 30 quid. A good selection of various camera-to-telescope adapters can be found at ...

    Electrickery and RCD's

Been reading this thread avidly and reminded me of the last time that I did some electrical work. The firm I was working for sent me out to fix a woman's doorbell - Bue she wasn't in!!!.........lol

    Electrickery and RCD's

John....sorry mate, It's all electrician-speak stuff. Stingray......once the 16th Ed started to go astray with their testing and earthing changes I just left it and took up a new career. Still miss working with the basic stuff, but certainly don't miss all the changes. Alan.

    NIBA meet up

Count me in guys. Just a thought on behalf of jonno.....but would I be right in presuming that there are no age limits on these daytime meets and that younger ages would be welcome also?

    Northern Ireland

Thanks for your reply, Combat. I didn;t mean to be definitive, or pernickity with my opinions on wild camping - was just having a rant. Maybe we could get together for a wander over the summer sometime and compare rants and moans over some tea. Yeah Jonno.....the chavs seem to stay near the...

    Tesco's Torch

Just tried my new Tesco torch out in my back garden this evening. Wow. What a torch, given the price of it. Easily compares with more expensive torches, just as robust. My handsize maglight has now been relegated to 2nd place and kept in the car. The Tesco's torch is now my Bushtorch. Alan.

    Bear over Everest

I saw it, and although I have never warmed to BG as an outdoors man in the same league as RM I give maximum respect to what he did in that program. I was on the edge of my seat as he soared higher and higher. Brilliant stuff. Loved the way you saw his adventurous side at Everest and also his...

    Northern Ireland

Hi Redneck. Many thanks for your vote of support and confidence in us, but to be honest it's not a new thing here. I'll not give away my age, but lets just say that for the 2nd time in my life my waist measurement is the same as my age. I have been doing "extreme camping" since I first...

    Northern Ireland

ok. So we all now have a few places to recommend to each other for where to go for an overnighter. Who is gonna be the first to suggest a time and place to have a day trip and cook some food? I'm heading out this evening for a wander around Crawfordsburn Country Park with a mate and cook...
