I'm lucky enough to be going for the Full Member maximum days at the Moot. This will be the longest I've been bushcrafting in one trip so really looking forward to it.
Before I book the train, is anyone traveling by car from Leeds/West Yorkshire and wants to split the cost?
One way or both...
Bushcraft is all around...
There is a bit of grass by my morning bus stop that is kept cut short by the council. I've identified a few plants in it and the nearest trees. This morning I noticed that there are a couple of Yarrow plants.
Plant ID
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
Broad Leaf...
Most of the trees on the streets near me are things like Lime, Horse Chestnut, Maple etc.
I've no idea what this one is and it is starting to bug me . Can anyone help?
Cheers

Planning on spending September in Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons this year with the missus.
We'll be doing some overnights into the backcountry and maybe some horse riding (city slickers?). ;)
Any advice or recommendations greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Bushcraft is where you find it. I made this from bits of scrap network cabling from work.
High tech meets primative tech. ;) Pint pot for scale.
Info for the geeky. All the cable is Category 6A 10Gig ethernet. The main purple stuff is building cable and the blue and yellow bits...
We have a mature New Zealand Flax plant in the garden which needed some pruning recently. This left us with a large number of long leaves which I sometimes twist into extremely strong cordage.
I've been meaning to have a go at making a coil basket and so tried it out with the flax. I split...

I'm still sorting out my photos from a recent trip to California and thought I'd share these.
We were stood talking in the campground and had to quickly duck backwards as the hawk flew between us. He had spotted a golden ground squirrel just behind where were standing. Fortunately the...
YouTube has many videos of interest to Bushcrafters but sometimes it would be nice to be able to download the videos to watch later and without pauses.
This free utility YouTubeDownloader does exactly what it says on the tin. It is simple and quick and supports multiple simultaneous...
I know there are other members around the Leeds area. Anyone fancy meeting up for a pint one night?:beerchug:
The Adelphi pub on the south side of the city center has good parking and is easy to get to by bus/train/foot. The beer is good too as the brewery is almost next door.
Depending...
We off up to the Caingorns backpacking for the week and wondered what the midge conditions are like at the moment.
The Midge Forecast site has not been updated this year.
We've packed the mosi headnets and DEET and MosiMilk and Skin So Soft are on the shopping list. :)
I found this...
Made these a while ago from various pieces of Angelica. The Coloured stuff was dried from fresh (thanks EdS) and the brown stuff was just naturally dried after the plants had died back. The tall one is about 8" high.
I used various bits of cordage to whip the ends for extra...
I can't find out any info on this (which may be a good thing) but I'm hoping someone here may be able to help.
I'm off to America in September to backpack the John Muir Trail in California. However, I may have to go to Libya with work in February and am trying to find out if I might have any...
Book Review:
The Book of The Bivvy by Ronald Turnbull.
Published by Cicerone Press
Price: £9.99
Just finished reading this book which is now in it's second edition and well recommend it. There is more to read in there than the thickness of the book would suggest (139 pages).
It contains...
Had a bit of a shock on Friday night when leaving Carlisle railway station.
There was a heavy police presence and a walk through metal detector at the exit. They were checking for people carrying knives and the whole thing seemed fairly serious. I had to empty my pockets out into a tray and...
Not to sound too keen or anything but what are the dates for next years Summer Bushmoot? :D
Just trying to get in first with booking holidays at work.
Thanks
