Barnett Safari and Exocet Compound Bows

Received the speargun reel today and very impressed with:thankyou: Now to fabricate some kind of mount using the existing mounts on the Safari. Strings are ordered from the US so will post pictures when all is here and assembling is complete.

Barnett Safari and Exocet Compound Bows

Thought I would practice in our pond (it's 5' deep and quite wide:fishing:) at weighted balloons. this would allow me to work out what to allow for refraction whilst shooting from either a dinghy or sit-on kayak :canoe: although I'm going to look abit of a muppet to the neighbours :nana:

Barnett Safari and Exocet Compound Bows

Thanks for the tips, excellent points. Just ordered a speargun reel and am working out how to fit it to the Safari bow.

Barnett Safari and Exocet Compound Bows

My understanding is that bowfishing is illegal in the UK:(. My intention is to use the rig abroad when travelling as it all packs down quite nicely:o. Just found strings in the US on EBlag. Have considered using a spear fishing gun reel rather than a standard closed spinner reel but early days...

Barnett Safari and Exocet Compound Bows

As I'm into recycling and enjoy little projects, I now am the current owner of a couple of old Barnett Compound Bows which I am fettling. Thinking about setting one up as a fishing bow (I know it is illegal to use them in UK freshwater :(but I travel to Africa a lot and could use it...

    Sierra Leone kitlist

All, many thanks for the comments. Mastimo - I use a Gerber hand saw, carry a Firefly and signal mirror. Food is something we are looking at as the bulk will be held in centralised caches which we are pre-establishing.

We have licensed radio frequencies and radios here which are utilised onsite. Body armour is not really something worth considering. At the end of the day the plans/contingencies we are putting in place are simply to get us out of the poo if necessary. Plus it's blo@dy heavy :lmao:

Gloves don't last here. IMO the additional problems associated with having your hands in continously damp material would outweigh any benefits. Our labour here go through work gloves at a horrendously fast rate and if given the preference will always work barehanded. Also around here there are...

Our security company has identify a number of ERV's and the review of possible routes is onging and updated regularly. Boredom can be an issue:( but if it came down to it, I could take my kindle and recharge it with the Power Gorilla (I've over 800 books on it). Somehow though if it got bad...

I have military spec medics kit with all usual gear a patrol medic has on hand. The general rule is to carry your passport at all times and only hand over the colour photocopies. Having scans on a USB is a very good idea ( Phil Campion promoted the UTag system) and I will look at doing that. I...

We have a dirt airstrip about 40 minutes drive away, a river port (Nitti) with our own boats about 20 mins away, nearest large town (Bo) is two and half hours away (all on dirt roads of varying standards). The problem is that when the rebels hit the area before no flights could get in, the...

Pretty much all of us carry a slush/emergency fund of at least a couple hundred dollars in low denomination bills, plus our passports etc are with us all the time. What has been highlighted is a need to carry colour photocopies of all documents and spare passport photos (all fitting in a small...

What's your best homemade or commercial bug repellant?

I use the Boots own brand REPEL insect repellent roll-on. It is about the best thing we have and handles all the mossies, etc we encounter in the Sierra Leone jungle. Plus it's an absolute doddle to put on :p

Peteo, I have to agree to disagree with regards to the folding blade. I've carried my Leatherman all over the world in all kinds of terrain including jungles, deserts, mountains and at sea and to date it has never let me down. My personal choice of a Leatherman and machete for this type of...

Forgot to list my old Swedish army trangia and a couple of waterbottles. I take your point about a fixed tang blade but nearly all of us carry Leathermans here at all times and a machete is an absolute requirement here. We are arranging centralised caches for fuel, water and food which we will...

I'm currently working away in Sierra Leone, on a very remote mine in the middle of fairly dense jungle. We are now pulling together a number of contingency measures for our guys. The reason is we have elections scheduled at the end of the year so it's common sense to prepare for the unexpected...
