    corona virus projects any one?

Nice one Broch, I was actually thinking earlier today I might try and make myself a shave horse from some scraps of plywood I have to keep me busy when I get home. All the best Andy

Are we buying more or less stuff?

It's not so much what I'm buying, it's all stuff I use in the workshop. it's just the judgement.

Are we buying more or less stuff?

Bit of both. I stocked up on coal, gas and steel a couple of weeks before I left for the rig. And before the lockdown I'd ordered a number of bits and bobs for the workshop and various projects but despite having a good few things I could do with, there seems little point ordering at the minute...

Hi all, Can anyone suggest a good sea fishing spot for mackerel within an hour or so of Glasgow? Cheers Andy

    Axes, hultafors length advice please

Dusty - I should have said I find I tend to take the small forest axe out with me more than the larger one. Simply because it's easier to pack. A hybrid like the Ray Mears fancy axe with the heavier head on a slightly shorter handle would be nice. All the best Andy

    Axes, hultafors length advice please

Check the Husqvarna versions too: https://www.radmoretucker.co.uk/shop/forestry-landscaping-equipment/forestry-tools/axes-hatchets/husqvarna-wooden-forest-axe/

    Axes, hultafors length advice please

I have the 65cm version and the GB small forest axe (45cm ish?) The larger axe is a great tool. It will easily cope with all the duties above. The main advantage for the smaller axe is simply (to me) that it's easier to pack. Personally I'd be tempted by the 52cm handle length as a bit more...

    corona virus projects any one?

I'm currently stuck on the rig. Due to get ashore on the 2nd of April. This may be brought forward or pushed back depending how things go in the next week or so. I'm not sure what will happen if the country goes on full lock down before I get ashore. Assuming I get ashore ok then...

    A question of glue...

+ 1 for shoe goo. I used it to hold a pair of trainers together for years. They're still in service. All the best Andy

    Anvils: A beginner buyers guide

It's a handy looking tool that's for sure. The weight markings are always on the side of the anvil around the middle. Three sets of numbers in the hundred weight system. Numbers on the feet are almost always a serial number of some kind. / batch numbers. The weight system is a bit...

    Anvils: A beginner buyers guide

Looks like a good anvil to me Arran, you might find some more information on the sides of the anvil if you clean it up a bit. A wire wheel on an angle grinder does a good job of that. The hole in the bottom has something in it. It's usually a square hole an inch or two deep. As for the hardy...

    Airguns (Hope it's not taboo)??

Git. :P Ah well. Maybe I'll find one one day but it's not overly high on my priority list at the minute. All the best Andy

    Airguns (Hope it's not taboo)??

I recall when the Longbow came out that they looked ace. I should have bought one but I couldn’t afford one at the time. Ah well. All the best Andy

    Airguns (Hope it's not taboo)??

Now that you mention it I recall they were very light, and were harsh as a result. I like the Xocet. Nice and solid but simple and no nonsense. I think I paid about £140 for it iirc. All the best Andy

    Airguns (Hope it's not taboo)??

I’ve got two but I’ve barely even looked at them for years. A Webley Xocet and a Daystate X2. I always quite fancied a little BSA lightning as well for some reason. Why are they poorly regarded? Well I probably wouldn’t have stopped there, Webley Longbow, HW97, a nice Theoben etc. The list...

Installing a wood burner in my workshop advice needed

I installed my wood stove in the house. Think there was a thread about it on here as I was nervous initially. In hindsight I should have left a much bigger gap between the stove and the walls. But everything I’d read suggested it was fine but never mind. Haven’t had any issues as yet. Not...

Wanted: Gransfors Bruk Swedish carving axe

As title. I’m looking for a GB, Swedish carving axe. Double bevel version. I’m not interested in either of the one sided versions. I’ve got some bits to trade. Of note a bark river “Fox River 2” knife. Cheers Andy

Oh dear, yeah that was him. That’s a real shame. What a pity. He was a lovely chap to deal with and a very talented leatherworker. RIP. All the best Andy
