    Skills or lack there of

I'm curious to know what skills people lack or more importantly what would you like to learn? I'm coming at it from a bushcraft perspective but feel free to digress. For myself I'm quite happy with my crafting and woodmanship but I am a sorry forager. I've attended course and read books but...

Didn't we all, I never realized how much light or noise there was in my garden at night until I slept in it, or how uneven my lawn was

    Nettle roots

be nice if edible - bit like wild spaghetti Can you eat nettle roots? The dried leaves and flowers can be steeped to make a delicious herbal tea, while its leaves, stem and roots can be cooked and added to soups, stews, smoothies and stir-frys. However, avoid eating fresh leaves, as their...

    Native Americans Russell Means

As a newbie to the forum I have to say I find certain members need to attack woodygirls views or the views of those they disagree with as quite narcissistic. Woodygirl has her beliefs and her experiences so I don't see why others feel the need to trash them just because they think differently...

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

Always makes me laugh the EDF charge UK users through the nose so they can keep French prices down, I know through out history we have bailed the French out a few times but is it really acceptable now that we are basically paying for them to have cheaper energy?? Going back to the question I...

I've just been reading on line that channel 4 has a production company called The garden (I think) making a UK version of Alone? Does any one here have any more information on this? What's the word on the ground? Can not find much on line other than a release date of possibly April?

what is the best way to pack a backback for hiking and camping

Thought I'd open this old thread as I'm new and I'm sure the subject is still relevant. I generally use two packs and pack them both in roughly the same way. If I'm fast packing my needs are slightly different to when I pack for a overnighter or a multi day hike but the principle is the same...

What are the main draws of 'bushcraft'?

I imagine the draw of bushcraft is different for every one. For me I grew up playing in the woods, lighting fires and building dens with my friends, was it bushcraft? I think not, to kids it was just fun, we all had old army surplus jack knives and pinched matches out the house. Loving being...

Potential ban to wild camping on Dartmoor.

Yep access isn't being stopped or trying to be stopped, its just wild camping. And while I feel sorry for the Darwell's in a way, uneducated wild campers leaving rubbish every where isn't good, I do feel that if the wild camping is banned then access will be banned soon after!

Human Nature - The problem with people.

Every soldier is a beta male until they have to be a alpha. I actually think the whole Alpha things rubbish anyway, most people aren't Alpha's they are just people with an opinion, most people would pooh their pants if they had to actually be a alpha in a extreme situation. Better to be a live...

Human Nature - The problem with people.

Leadership is key for survival, if you read any historical account of a survival scenario be it at sea or on land a leader (sometimes the most unexpected person) is what holds things together, likewise there are plenty of accounts where the leader has finally snapped and shortly after the group...

Human Nature - The problem with people.

Good call Jared, watched the VLOG, one night out using their kits and some good pointers too. Firstly, your clothes are your first line of defense so dress appropriately, secondly get some knowledge and learn how to use what's in your kit. Loved the guys Mylar shelter and folding chair.
