I’m not sure if your medical event might preclude this but another fun option might be to make your own knife under the tuition of someone like Dave Budd of this parish. Amazing experience and a better understanding of the knife itself too perhaps.

You could try freezing it and then putting it straight into hot water to see if the expansion will loosen it and make the scraping easier. My other thought was WD40, but that might leave a taint.

The best way to avoid it is to be the bartender. Makes sure I know what goes in my drinks. The last time I had a gin it took two Epipens to bring me back but I am a big lad, as they say round these parts.
As a bartender people find it weird that I have an anaphylactic reaction to gin.
Juniper bush will bring me out in a rash from head to toe in seconds but gin just shuts me down entirely.
Epipen is an essential in my bar kit.
