    Backpack Repair

I've been quiet because I did go on Jaunt #2 as promised but it was a bit of disaster as October camping = cold and the gear I took let me down... I didn't pack enough layers (my fault when packing, panicked at the weight and left a few extra layers behind - was hot during the day but cold at...

My artwork / trip to the Jurassic Coast

And the final part: Jurassic Jaunt 7: Swanage Around The Globe On A Tilly Whim 2 Miles To The Next Coffee, California knows how to quarry, fish and chip reprise, an AWOL Karen, a water emergency, a Tilly Whim and a big stone Globe. Really enjoyed doing these and planning another trip shortly.

Vegetarian, gluten free freeze dried camping meals

I do eat buckwheat, I have buckwheat noodles in the pantry. Problem is a lot of ramen SHOULD be buckwheat since wheat isn't a traditional thing in Japan or China, but recent versions even Japanese ones now tend to use wheat, annoyingly. Proper traditional ramen: 100% buckwheat. I am a lucky...

That's corn starch, the white fluffy stuff? Corn meal I could only ever find in specialist big Asdas.

A lot! I took two of those foil sealed bags last time, and never touched them once. Lesson learned....less nuts.

Wine gums was my classic. They do eventually go off though...I found that the hard way...ugh. Even in a plastic bag. So do Tic Tacs, my replacement but it takes longer in the plastic box. They fade white, which is odd and lose their crunch, they go soggy?

    Waxed canvas haversack / breadbag

What I never understood is how you stop it unravelling? That didn't seem obvious to me, and not something I could easily learn from trial and error.

My artwork / trip to the Jurassic Coast

I am Number 6! I am a...oh wrong series. Jurassic Jaunt 6: Corfe Castle – Escape from the Model Village 6th part of my Jurassic Jaunt series of works along the Weymouth - Swanage coast, with sheep on the Tumble, escape from a model village, a watercolour nearly becomes a kite, and a ‘lucky’...

Dry your own foods in what? I'm guessing a food dehydrator....which are rather pricey themselves! I eat a lot of rice. Quinoa I cannot stand, and also not happy about the local effect it had in South America - trendy pricing it out of reach of the locals, where it was a staple food. Also Zea...

Popcorn...the sweet stuff. Feather light, so hardly anything to carry and I find it works a treat. Nuts would be usual but they are quite heavy. I always carry something sweet for those moments where it's cold, wet, going dark and you just need something to cheer you up on my walks, and quick...

Tomato powder? Isn't that basically Tomato Cup-a-soup? ;-) One trip aeons ago I had these liquid soup things, like soup pouches but concentrated. Not sure they make them anymore. Dried mushrooms is a good call.

Bulgur isn't gluten free btw....just so you know. Neither is Rye or Spelt. As the OP says, oats have to be GF, I can stand normal oats a little, as I can wheat but over the tipping point - ugh. (GF sensitive IBS victim, I found out the hard way!). P.S. really interested in this thread since...

    Waxed canvas haversack / breadbag

I'd have to ask my Dad who indeed used to have to repair boating canvas/sails, but I think it's some really good or butch sewing machine with a big needle....certainly not your normal domestic needle anyway!

Oh dear what have I done? (UL camping here I come)

Yes I always take a waterproof jacket. I haven't taken waterproof trousers since as an ex-sailor (I sailed a lot as a kid and teen with my Dad) I always found those actually ended up making you wetter with sweat unless you indeed were being battered by seawater! They aren't breathable - not the...

Oh dear what have I done? (UL camping here I come)

I actually found by accident my sleeping bag has a hidden pocket - I guess for wallets etc. Ditto my Berghaus old rucksack - found it has a secret pocket where the lower straps/padding is - and found a strange key and a rusty nut in there that had gone through the washing machine! But I am...
