    Sleeping bag advice

Sure, well I liked the Golden eagle, and in some ways regret selling it on but there were a few things a didn't like (I'd be interested to know if any of these have been sorted now they have changed manufactures). First, the material was not great and it soon scuffed up where the Velcro touched...

    Sleeping bag advice

I'd like a sleeping bag so that I can use it on the ground as well. Can anyone tell me something about the Carinthia 4 sizing? I'm 5.9" but I like a bit of room and always found the medium army Arctic bag a shade too small. The C4 seems to come in two lengths too, are they similar in size to the...

    Sleeping bag advice

I haven't tried one, are they good (significantly better than the Arctic bag they replaced)? I haven't totally ruled them out (due to total lack of any other options).

    Sleeping bag advice

I'm looking for a central zip seeping bag (yes that old chestnut) and I'd like some advice. I'll get straight to the point, I don't want to spend more than £150ish and it needs to be a proper 4 season bag. I have had both the british army Arctic bag and a Woodlore golden eagle in the past so I...

    new winter jacket malarky

You might want to take a look at Pinewood jackets, the Idaho and Lapland caught my eye. Don't know much about them but they seem to fit your requirements. In the end I stuck with my Austrian army M65 jacket washed in Nikwax cottonproof. If I had your budget I might have thought differently.

I used something called seam grip on my tarp, it was surprisingly easy to do neatly and works perfectly.

    Best tarp out there?

Just to add another option to the mix, about a year ago I bought an Elite Evolution basha (3x3 multicam) from a site called ukmc pro and I'm very happy with it. Good size, very light, well made, good camo.

Is single layer ventile waterproof; is double layer breathable?

It might well be all those things but it's also very expensive and not waterproof, so I guess my point is that you could wear an army surplus jacket or similar for £20, treat it, make it pretty showerproof but ultimately get soaked in a serious downpour or spend £200 and still get soaked in the...

Is single layer ventile waterproof; is double layer breathable?

Think that pretty much sums up my view of ventile, it is no more waterproof than treated pollycotton but it is very expensive. I think people just think it's very 'bushcraft' when all it really is is old fashioned.

Down Sleeping Bag - Advice Sought

I've got a nanok -10 comfort down and I like it very much, but they have a number of down bags that are worth a look. I know a lot of people like alpkit, mostly because of the price I think. If you have the cash you could look at the down Carinthia bags. Other than that, The usual brands, Rab...
