If it was elm the inner bark would give it away. Would be tough and elastic. Id go with oak or hornbeam. Both will be incredibly dense and heavy. If it were goat willow I would expect to see more diamonds in the bark and it wouldnt be anywhere near as heavy as oak/hornbeam, still the heaviest...
Can only Echo the above. Especially when it comes to limbing something sprucy or piney. Granted I have only tried a few machete designs but they all lacked enough weight to compensate for the feedback from the material.
They also have a tendency to deflect given their thin profile and blade...
Granted this was longer ago than I wish to accurately date but my wife and I travelled around Indoensia and Australia for a year flying all over the shop and all with a Gerber multi-tool and penknife in my waist pack. Often it was searched, found and complimented on :) Oh how things have changed.
Very simple flat bow. Wasnt over wide or long but keep the depth. Ended up mid 40`s and shot well. Certainly a meat winner, wasnt overly quick but was incredibly easy to work. Was from a fast grown tree about 6" across. I only tried it as it were going spare and about to be disposed of.
Problem with Cheap keks is the fit also tends to be cheap..
You know cheap when you squat and the thighs cut off the blood to your lower limbs. That or they have no waist taper and have to rely solely on a belt to keep them up.
