    Swedish Buscraft Festival

Bushcraftfestivalen 2017 - day 2, saturday The day did not start too well. Well, the night to be more accurate. It got cold. Temperature dropping to just a few degrees above freezing and most, including me, apparently only had summer sleeping gear. It already was quite cold when I hit the sack...

    Swedish Buscraft Festival

Hi Guys 'n gals, it's been awhile since I posted something, but I wanted to share my experiences from the Swedish bushcraft festival held last weekend. I copied it from my blog, so that's why it all looks a bit funny. Bushcraftfestivalen 2017 - day 1, friday Before I tell you about how I...

Anyone going to Jokkmokk next year??

Hi Bopdude, we are looking at using a large military tent&stove as a base, but other then that no plans yet. In order to keep costs down, as there are a few who do not have limitless resources and to avoid crowds, the suggestion is made to camp a bit away from the market itself. We are also...

Anyone going to Jokkmokk next year??

Hi folks, I know quite a few of you have been to Jokkmokk in the past few years and I was wondering if anyone or maybe even a group is planning on going next year as well. Reason why I am asking is that I am currently investigating possibilities to do likewise with a small group of bushcraft...

Swedish LK35...Is it worth buying & modding?

We are all not like you, Janne. So yes, many would prefer a smaller backpack for a daypack. Doesn't matter what or who is was designed for. I for one will not go on a dayhike out here or anywhere else for that matter, without at least the means to create a shelter in case of an emergency. A...

Swedish LK35...Is it worth buying & modding?

Given the extensive modifications to this pack, I'd say; buy one that resembles the mods shown. The only thing you'd want to change on the Lk35 are the shoulderstraps, which I deem highly uncomfortable and add a waist strap. Done. There is no need to do anything else. There's plenty of room...

    New Man-pack Shelter (inc phots)

No way that shelter is military issue. Looks way to civvi up to and including the camo-pattern. Beach shelter is my guess too.

Wool blankets instead of a sleeping bag?

They might be, although the do have the size of regular blankets. And I have both green/grey and white.

Wool blankets instead of a sleeping bag?

Because I froze both times. Now I must say that the blankets I used were nowhere near the fluffy blankets I am used to. These were thin and very compacted/felted, so not much room to trap air and insulate. I did sell my Dutch blankets (idiot that I am) and they were much fluffier. I do think...

Wool blankets instead of a sleeping bag?

Tried wool blankets both during winter and recently and I will stay away from them from now on. As far as I am concerned the idealized, romanticized feeling has been put to rest permanently. As does the legend regarding Swedish army blankets.

Moose time! (Warning! Pictures of dead animals)

I expected mostly elderly men, driven by a common passion and lifestyle, with a wealth of knowledge, eager or at least glad to show, share and learn younger ones showing an interest in what they do.

Moose time! (Warning! Pictures of dead animals)

Nothing really. Just sitting on a stool, waiting for the right type of moose to trot by within the right range under the right angle. The hunter I joined picked of a calf within 30 minutes, field dressed that quite poorly and later, when slaughtering that, the ones doing the butchering did that...

Moose time! (Warning! Pictures of dead animals)

Looking good, Arya. I noticed that you are not wearing any gloves. I was taught in huntingcourse to alwatýs wear those when handling meat, since the nr.1 reason for spoiling meat is the unclean touch of man. Spray some vinegar on the area you touched and you see why, no matter how well you clean...

A long weekend in Norwegian higher atmospheres

Thanks for the replies, gents! Glad you liked it. @ Hamish; I sure do hope so! @Barbourdynham; the very one. @Wicca; he did. The issue was much more.... ehmm... banal. There are quite a few cabins in the area, so plenty of folk around, when weather is good and during the days off.

A long weekend in Norwegian higher atmospheres

After breakfast, again with copious amounts of eggs and bacon. Especially bacon, we started preparing for the hike up Storvola, being 1198m. high. Odd explained that we needed to take the track around it and looking up the slopes I understood why. Nothing but rocks and boulders piled on to each...

A long weekend in Norwegian higher atmospheres

I took so many pictures that I wanted to show that I needed to split the whole report in 3 parts. It was a very early morning. We were awake at about 6:30 and up 5 minutes later. I slept rather well and was asleep almost as soon as I hit my pillow (yes, I did bring mine) last night. There had...

A long weekend in Norwegian higher atmospheres

Well, it finally happened. After 2 years I met Odd again. Packing was a bit tricky. Weather forecast was good, but a bit cold. Around +6C during the day and around or slightly under freezing at night. I always find that a hard range to dress for. It is very easy to under- or overdress, meaning...
