    LARGE COMFORTABLE BACKPACK RECOMMENDATIONS

I really rate the Mystery Ranch or Hill People Gear kit. I have a HPG Qui-Ya and it’s incredibly comfortable. Neither brand is cheap, but they are extremely durable and high quality. Buy once, cry once. You only have one spine so treat it nice!

Learning the ways of UK Bushcraft

Just to chime in, but please don’t make the mistake of believing that instructor status is a shortcut to experience and expertise. I hold a fair few instructor competencies in both Military and Civilian spheres, the courses are simply vehicles to ensure that you are able to teach others theory...

Recommendations for gear to start my bushcraft journey!

I forgot one other vitally important bit of kit - a good headtorch. Can’t go wrong with a Petzl Tikka but I’d recommend a Nitecore HC65 if you think you’ll be out at night a lot.

Recommendations for gear to start my bushcraft journey!

You can really go down a rabbit hole here. I’m more active in my outdoor pursuits, sitting by the fire is something I do once the day is done and this is reflected in my gear preferences. Here are a few things I’ve had for many years that have either stood the test of time or I’ll replace like...

    Lion Steel

I’ve got one, it’s well made and M390 is great steel. Very sturdy, I’d recommend it although I prefer my Spyderco UKPK for everyday carry as it sits more nicely in the pocket.

    UK bushcrafters with firearms...

Isn’t Trudeau a tyrant who froze the bank accounts of those who protested against his massively over the top Covid mandates? I would not trust him or his Government as far as I could throw him. They’re not disarming you for your safety.

    UK bushcrafters with firearms...

I’ve been shooting since I was a child. Though these days I’ve moved on from the air rifles of my youth. I mainly shoot target, with a variety of rifles from .22LR and .223 right up to .300 Win Mag and good old .45-70. It’s still a pretty popular hobby over here, despite our draconian laws. I...

    Book for tree/plant identification

Thanks Broch, I’ll take a look at that. It sounds very comprehensive! Totally agree when talking plants, but my focus is trees! I was hoping for a bit of input, but this is probably the wrong audience as I’m sure most on here have no problem identifying the most common trees and also know their...

    Book for tree/plant identification

At 821 pages, the Collins Complete Guide is surely a brilliant source of information. But it’s not exactly portable, this would be a field guide. To be honest I’ve always called an oak an oak. Never felt the need to use any Latin and it’s never hindered me, but then again I’m out in the country...

    Book for tree/plant identification

Bringing this thread back from the grave here. This seems to be a recurring subject that rears it's head the more I talk to people. In fact, i've heard it so many times now that I am seriously considering stepping up to the plate and creating a book that seems to have a reasonable amount of...

    vortex monocular?!

I have a lot of experience with Vortex kit. I own a variety of Vortex kit from £150 red dot sights up to their top end Razor rifle scopes (I chose Vortex over Nightforce, S&B, Kahles etc). I’ve been buying their gear for about 10 years now. It is decent, solid equipment at a reasonable price...
