Pimp Your Knife - home customising production knives

I recently posted a few photos of a couple of cheap Hultafors knives I adapted at home in a thread I begana on another topic. Just thought it might be an idea to start a thread where we could post ideas and photos of our home pimped knives? Below are stainless and HD Hultafors knives that I...

    RAY ILES SPOON CARVING TOOL

Hi, looking for a spoon carving gouge and was wondering if anyone has experience with the Ray Iles tools? If so, which would you recommend as I will mainly be carving shallow eating spoons - would the RAY ILES SHALLOW SPOON CARVING TOOL be best or one of the Iles knives with a deeper crook? The...

    CHILD'S FIRST KNIFE

Just pimped the handle of the Hultafors GK and followed your advice Re shock cord Kepis. Thanks, really appreciated..... I went too deep with the finger choil....the perils of changing my mind halfway through...but all in all a much more usable knife for my hands. Sorry, bit off topic, but...

    CHILD'S FIRST KNIFE

Thanks man, appreciate the tip Ill get on it. I have a Hultafors HD knife as well...with a frankly massive handle for my liking. I think I'll take the sander to that one as well and get rid of the guard at the same time. I'm wondering if trying to heat form the plastic sheath around the pimped...

Thanks, yes it's worked out well I think - and has made use of what we had till he grows into the Schnitzel we bought him. I think that sanding down has also created a nicer and grippier handle, a bit more rubberised in texture.

    CHILD'S FIRST KNIFE

Hi, yes I agree, the frankly huge guard may likely be prohibitive and the opinels are great for whittling etc. I think the guard may have to go...Anyone have any experience of moulding kydex? May be an option rather than making a leather sheath.... if it's not a huge ffaff

    CHILD'S FIRST KNIFE

UPDATE: HI All. Just thought I'd post a little update. We have found that the Schnitzel knife we bought is just too big for my sons 6 year old hands (clue was in the description, suitable for 10 year olds! Mea Culpa). So...I had a £7 stainless Hultafors that as discussed previously in this...

That's cool man, the engraving is a lovely touch. Out of curiosity which Boker+ model is it? I think there's something in your lodgic re. slipjoints..... I imagine most of us had folders as our first knives. Mostly crap ones in my case, from anywhere I could get my hands on one. My first...
