The wood is birch Burl I felled a couple of years ago. On both knives. The Wynter is Wynter Forge which is my blade making business.
Thank you for the compliments.
I’ve made a few Puukko types. Not with the materials you mention though as I tend to use locally sourced if I can. These two have fallow antler in them.
It was the western lakes mainly Ennerdale water. One of the local techniques is bubble and fly as a lot of fish cruise about quite far away from the shore.
The handle looks great. A bit of advice on the blade. Hand sand the blade to the desired finish before putting the handle on. Once the handle is on it makes it really difficult to go back to it. Also when hand sanding have the scratches all going one direction this gives it a smarter finish. A...
When I’m fishing euro nymph style I always use a jig hook on the bottom it does work. You’ll find a big difference when fishing on the bottom. They do get hung up still but it’s noticeable much less. The other thing I’ve used in the past is split shot on the bottom then having a fly a few inches...

Thanks for the input Chris I’ll take this on bored and incorporate this into the next one, regarding the weak spots do you mean this area where my thumb nail is?
For better grip and cleaning access reducing the bump between the handle and the metal here?
Sorry I should have added the dimensions.
The spine thickness is 3mm but tapers on the handle and the blade. It’s hidden a little by the false edge on the top. The blade length is 4 inches with a 4 1/2 inch handle (fits my hand perfectly) steel type is 80crv2
You are right about the point at...
Hey all,
I’m thinking of doing a small run of these in the new year. With a couple of tweaks such as a lanyard hole at the back and adding a touch of extra length to the handle. Any ways I’ve made this prototype for my self to use. If any one has any input please comment as I’m always open to...
Thank you, it’s not a hamon though. The steel is laminated together so the center piece has no nickel content and gets etched quicker by acid. The hammering process creates the waves between the 3 layers.
