    Knife handle advice needed

Yep I use boiled linseed on my axe handles and canoe paddles, a bit more of a grippy finish.

    Knife handle advice needed

Danish oil is my weapon of choice for knife handles. It will simply darken it to the colour it is when wet. If that is not enough and you need it darker then I think you can get coloured danish oil. Linky to Colron HTH

Wanted Nova Craft Bob Special or similar

Just that NC stuff is hens teeth these days and holds value like no-ones business. May be a better option

Wanted Nova Craft Bob Special or similar

Thought about something from Apache canoes? They've had a revamp lately and they have good weight, durability etc and have newer designs that I think are better.

    Pigeon deterrent

Had one here too last week, phonephotos were crap unfortunately. She took a collared dove (nice wee things) and also had her entourage of magpies (6) waiting to scavenge what was left. Cheers Alan

Plywood canoe kits - what are people's thoughts?

If he's 17, get it done quick, my lad is 20 and I barely see him now he's away at university. I've been teaching him too while he's 'been between girlfriends' (another big time sink!) and have only managed a couple of sessions this year! The nice weather in July let us cover the rescue side of...

Plywood canoe kits - what are people's thoughts?

It'll be grand for pootling about although a 14 footer with two people and a bit of kit might be getting near the top end of it's capacity. SotP has a self build section which might be helpful http://www.songofthepaddle.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php/27-Self-build-Canoes I've never built one...

    Natural glue

I've done a few flint arrowheads a long time ago and we bound them to the shaft (with a notch in the shaft) then 'painted' the pine resin/charcoal mix on top to seal it all in. hard bubblegum was a great description. The strength came from the fibre/sinew clamping the wood, the resin just held...

    Dry bag

https://www.alpkit.com/featured/dry-bags Not sure I'd haul too much on the wee strap though just pinch the bottom of the bag. Other option may be https://aquapac.net/store/shop/drybags-drysacks/trailproof-drybag-7l-shoulder-strap/ Bit more heavy duty. Hope this helps, Alan

    Modellers Corner

Years and years ago I picked up a book on ebay but a couple of quid called "The young sea officers sheet anchor" Really good for figuring out how it all works and tbh not too bad a read if you like ropes and stuff.... Maybe for next time! As long as it looks good, only you will notice the...

    Modellers Corner

Nah could only really afford one Warhammer addiction, fantasy would have bankrupted me. The WH historicals did it for me, good system and cheap(er) figures, what's not to like! Imagine a sassanian elephant and crew from GW, you wouldn't get much change out of 50 quid! A trick I got from a guy...

    Modellers Corner

Nice thread, love a bit of vicarious modelling! Been messing about since I was a kid and never really stopped, just got a little intermittent when family appeared. Started off with the usual airfix stuff which didn't survive but then got into wargaming at high school. Got into 40K for a...

    Poncho recommendations?

Hi All, Plumbing into the collective wisdom here on ponchos. Just back from a wee holiday and the weather was roasting but with some thunderstorms and heavy rain. As a result am looking for a poncho, a wee brolly worked well but was only partial coverage for the both of us. Would also be...

    Seller Refusing Refund

Nah don't think I am. I can't see anything that tells me the handle has been clearly replaced. The metal wedge although a little proud looks like its in one piece and wooden wedges do sometimes split due to the forces when you bang the metal wedge in. As dwardo says we've all seen worse when...

    Seller Refusing Refund

Looks exactly like the axe in the for sale thread... The surface rust was very visible and doesn't look any worse although a wee coat of oil wouldn't have gone a miss... Is the "poorly fitted replacement handle" loose? How do you know it's a replacement, I assume he told you it was. If not...

    frost river

Sorry Terry, totally missed this or I'd have been all over it! I'm a bit of a Frost River fan... Think there is even one missing from this... Anyways, I'll be the first to admit they are not the comfiest of packs for long distance walks although I have managed about 6 miles or so with no...

    Anyone had a dental implant?

You can go to India and get one done for £150.... It might be alright... it might not.... Be interesting to know the figures for what the NHS spends sorting out 'surgery gone wrong'
