What course are you doing/thinking of doing?

Got fortunate enough to get onto a free "Mock Student Day" with Paul Kirtley's Frontier Bushcraft a week or so back. It's officially a "training day" for his tutors and to make it as realistic as possible they wanted proper students. They did a variation of their 1 day survival course, I got a...

Casting for a Naked Survival Show

They were reaching out to various bushcraft / wild camping groups on Facebook to push this a while back and the general response was similar to the responses given on here so far.

    Bushbox.. Redundant Gear?

I guess it's just another tool in the "leave no trace" toolbox if you don't want a ground fire. The grill plates that comes with them are also handy in that they do not require you to take another grill / pan with you to cook with. I bought the Firebox XL for this very reason though like you I...

    Best Trangia/Alcohol Stove Fuel

Regular meths from Toolstation, £2.99 for 0.5L. Never felt the need to use the official fuel bottle, regularly have half liter water bottles in the bag and never had an issue with them leaking.

Where are all the Laplander blades?

Always here of Silky's snapping but never a Laplander, maybe that's why they are hard to find as they rarely break so no one stocks replacements?

    1st knife suggestions

Will throw one of these in the mix: https://www.varusteleka.com/en/group/terava-jaakaripuukkos/2426 My 1st knife and still my favorite. Cheap, full tang, and can take a lot of abuse which is handy for batonning. Bought a thinner blade also for finer carving tasks but still found no reason to...

    Mobile Advice?

The power save features on Samsung's are pretty good, you should be able to get 3 days out of a battery if you enable them.

    Aliexpress- Suggestions.

Various tables, survival cards (they were cheap), a fire pit, titanium mug, various other bits...never anything over £30. With these Chinese sites personal experience from another chinese site, Wish, tells me to stay away from anything "complex" like electronics. Anything which is in effect just...

Article: SnugPak: Insulated Jungle Travel Blanket

I have been doing exactly the same thing myself, been using it indoors for around a month now. Like yourself I hate the weight of a duvet, I have the XL version but thinking of buying the regular size as to use permanently indoors as the XL version is a bit too large for a single person use.

    What bombproof tinder?

I use these in Winter, they burn with a blue flame so are nice and hot. However it it's around freezing you still need to properly prepare your kindling to get it to light or use small twigs to get going.

    Mummy shaped Sleeping bags

Was lucky enough to pick up a Defence 4 bag for cheap and I can never go back to a regular mummy bag, they are just too restrictive and I can't sleep in them. The large footwell means I put my top in the footwell when I go to sleep so when I wake up I can put on a warm top straight away.
