    What did you buy today?

Weirdly, although I don't mind a hint of hexy or even petrol in my tea I've never cared for tea from a flask. This from a man who recently policed up all his flasks and discovered he had enough to make quite a large abstract sculpture. Flasks I mainly use for soup and runny foods like stew or...

Um, when you're halfway up Kinder Scout and the rains coming up parallel with the slope I'll take a teabag any time! Truth be told I don't even mind 3 in 1 compo' tea, a connoisseur I am not! ATB Tom

    What did you buy today?

B & M did have 8 packs of UHT type milk portions so I got 2 of those for the Mem' who doesnt like the powered stuff or evap'. I had to resort to the Internet to get individual teabags in foil rather than paper packets. When herself was spending a lot of time in hotels for work I was knee deep...

    Looking for a 200cm x 130cm Footprint/ ground sheet / tent floor protector

I've got one open as it as it happens but the fabric seams to wear realy badly, you can see the warp and weft through the coating already and it's only been folded a couple of times. I suppose bring one shot items they aint expected to be dug out and reused. Think I may have a sealed one in...

    Looking for a 200cm x 130cm Footprint/ ground sheet / tent floor protector

Strictly speaking I could live with up to 200 x 160 but what my Google fu has so far failed me to find is a 200 x 130 cm Foot print to go under my shiny new super light weight A frame mesh tent. Normally I'd make stuff I can't find myself but I can't face the idea of hand stitching two lines...

Mods to my ash walking staff

Cheers! Got the wrap on this AM , wet so it tightened up nicely. Used a lot more thong than I thought it would but no harm in having more to hand. Just to make sure I ran a line of super strong wood glue around the bottom 2 or three turns and once it was throughly dry ( Mr Hairdryer came to...

Having been fortunate enough to upgrade to a DD 4 x 4m tarp and A frame mesh inner I've been giving some thought to how ro hold the ridgeline they will be fixed to. Finding two trees with the right distance between and orientated the way I want to keep the rain off, wind out or view I wanted...

    Trangia Triangle - Value?

It may have changed after 15 odd years but the guy only charged me for the actual weight ( very little ) when I got the steel and then Ti versions, and very fast service. Mind they slipped past Customs so I didn't get hit for duty etc. There's probably Chinese versions now. Atb Tom

    softwood strop question

I'm having good experiences with the lime/linden/ basswood backed on to a big lump of oak. I'm going to make a bigger version with a handle underneath when have a new blade on the bandsaw or become less lazy. Once it's glued together I'll true up the limes surface with a sheet of sandpaper...

    Tinder scraper/ rasp

Somewhere i have a large pencil sharpener made from magnesium ( not the blade of course) which you can scrape for tinder. I would have actually carried it more if i they had put some sort of loop on it so it could have been attached to some thing. I've always liked using surforms for roughing...

    Tinder scraper/ rasp

Cheers! I forgot to give the dimensions, 2.5" x 1.5" x 5/8th" So is quite compact. The blade itself is available as a spare part. It would be a bit awkward to hold on its own but a frame would be easy to make or it could be incomperated into a tin or other container. Atb Tom

Well, that was easier than I thought, took about 20 minutes with out power tools. All I used was a bone/ x-acto saw, a scalpel, sand paper and a steel ruler. It weighs 16 grams or just over half a ounce. The lids just a bit of thin aluminium, a bit of pop can would do, scratched and...
