Uk knives from the 1980’s onwards, how thing change

The first knife ( excluding craft knives for modeling ) was a horsemans pocket knife with the big hooky tool for scraping boy scouts out of horse shoes that had bee my great grandfather's who had been a farrier- blacksmith at the pit. I got that when my grandad died when I was about 6 after...

Not bought but got as a swap two Mora wood carving knives which I'm rather chuffed with. Arrived yesterday and I fettled them straight away. Ones the kids carver and I removed the guard from it, trimmed the shoulders and tapped the handle down to close the gap up. I've since hot waxed the...

    Looking for a 200cm x 130cm Footprint/ ground sheet / tent floor protector

BigMonster was kind enough to drop off the footprint just now, having cutto size and seamed the section of recycled fly sheet I posted him and added six loops to match the ones on the A frame mesh tent. It weighs 7.2oz or 204gms and I'm absolutely delighted with the quality of work. It fits...

Found some more thin tent poles ex a worn out 2 man dome we had years back so made some 115cm awning poles to fit in the canvas aerial bag mentioned above. All held together with shock cord , 5 minute epoxy and knots. Atb Tom

Sorted the case for the lantern, a bit bulkier than the bought one but weighs next to nowt, seams contact glued then the vertical seam sewed through to hold it in place while the glue cures then a strip of gorilla tape to make sure and pretty it up some. The reflector fits across the top...

    What did you buy today?

UCO candle lantern kit 2.0, bright red as the green on looked a bit easy to lose in the long grass. I'll make a karrimat tube for it as the fleece bag that comes with it won't protect it enough and I'm not going to fork out sixteen quid for the made for it neoprene case. Craftsman brand 13...

    What did you buy today?

Ordered to arrive on Wednesday or Thursday a Primus Micron lantern with steel mesh globe. I wanted something smaller, more robust and lighter when with company than what I already have. It takes the same mantles as one I aleady have so I won't need to buy any more as I've 5 spares. Atb Tom

Cheap source of outdoors fabric for various projects.

Good idea! I could do with more thin Ally' poles as folk now want me to make them freebie awning poles to suit their various tents, which is what comes of showing off. I found the 115cm poles I cut to size neatly fit into a unissued webbing aerial bag i bought about 20 years back in case I...

    Wool blanket

Charity shops often have them cheap for pet bedding. As it happens i am getting rid of my collection of pure wool blankets, the ones that i was keeping for myself, less two or three I'm keeping for posterity, 3 will be going on ebay as collectors items but the rest i'll be selling cheap here...

Cheap source of outdoors fabric for various projects.

Cheers! 5 minutes googling ( less faff than unpacking and measuring then repacking) showed me that the A frame mesh tent and the backwoods bungalow required 115cm poles and a quick measure showed that would be more than enough to use as awning poles to hold corners of a basha up if I should...

Cheap source of outdoors fabric for various projects.

A long time ago I picked up a pretty much unused a Lichfield Combat 1 tent for a fiver on a carboot with the intention of letting the sons use it rather than them liberate my more modern stuff. However further finds of better tents meant it was instantly redundant so its languished in a...

Cheers! Mike had about 8 Disstons from the same source, I'd picked up a lovely NOS 6TPI from the local hardware shop back whe we lived in Stockport. They had given up trying to sell the good stuff to the locals and would find stuff buried in the store room they would offer me first refusal on...

Picked up arzther nice pretty much unused Disston 22" 10 TPI D-8 saw on Saturday in a excellent Curtol Made in England case. We payed 20 quid for it which is a lot for me but under the surface tarnish / rust it was in fantastic condition. I once made a huge plastic bag on a wooden frame...
