    Zip off trousers

It's only a tentative 'yes' from me, I'm afraid. They are versatile-ish but zipping the bottom bits on and off can be a faff and, to be honest, having zips on the thighs of a pair of trousers generally provides better/more effective ventilation. However, camping after a day's paddling, where...

    Baked Alder kayak spoon

Interesting. To me, it seems that you are baking the wood at quite a high temperature for quite a long time. If the ambition was not to darken the wood but merely to help it absorb the tung oil, would you bake it for less time at the same temperature or for the same amount of time at a lower...

    Baked Alder kayak spoon

That's lovely and a design that I have not seen before! I might just give it a try...

Could you please recommend me a rucksack?

Aiguille Alpine Equipment are also worth a look: their stuff is robust, reasonably priced and with uncluttered designs. The fact that it's also made in the U.K. is appealing, too.

    FlexiStove

Many thanks for the suggestions and advice. I think some aluminium origami is in order to make a little tray for the blocks or gel!

    FlexiStove

Now then, I bought one of these flexi-stoves. It duly arrived and I liked the fact that one could fold it flat and slip it in the pocket designed for a water bladder. All good - thus far. I tried it out for the first time today. SWMBO and I were coming down Quinag and I offered a cup of tea...

    Helikon Tex, any good?

I have one of the little Helikon Tex Bergen rucksacks. It's certainly well-made and well-designed, though is, perhaps, just a little small for my purposes. However, if it is representative of their other bags, I'd say Helikon Tex is probably worth a flutter.

Barefoot Shoe Review - These Boots Are Made For Walking

Do they come true to size? Or did you order larger or smaller that you might do normally? Like Saxonaxe, I'm looking for something that I can wear when out and afloat in my Canadian - so, hopping in and out of the boat and some modest exploration from beaches that look appealing. Many thanks...

Any one found a portable grinder or blender?

As a blender, I was about to suggest something like a Mouli Legumes but they can be expensive and are not really that portable! Although not ideal, I've found a good ol' potato masher and/or a fork work reasonably well but I suppose you have to accept that you'll never quite get that perfectly...

    Why no Production Skookum Bushtool

I'm afraid I don't know that. I'm sorry to say that my interest lies in whether the knife does its job well, rather than the numbers and stats that makes it work!

    Robens Hammock and Tarp set-up

Well, I think I'll just have to go and try it out for myself. With luck, I'll post my findings here in a little while...

    Robens Hammock and Tarp set-up

Does anyone have any experience of the above captioned hammock and tarp? I have a Robens mat, which I really like, and was wondering whether it would be worth trying out this set-up, based on my experience of their stuff. I know I should be supporting DD but, having tried their version, I was...

Where are all the Laplander blades?

The video mentioned "the next step". Anyone have any idea what that might be?

    Woodlore clones??

I used to own an Alan Wood Woodlore that I bought off Mr Mears's website long before you had to wait ten or twelve years for one. It was a good knife - great steel, designed with function in mind and beautifully made - but I sold it eventually. Why? Well, over time and trying out a number of...

Birch burls waiting in the wings.

That's gorgeous! He's a very lucky young man. I hope he'll keep it and look after it forever.

    Which one is best……..

I have to admit that I find the synthetic fleeces very 'airless' and unnaturally warm somehow. For that reason, I will always take wool as a first choice and the wool/polyester mix as a distant second, no matter whether I am in the hills or woods.

    Pear spoons 3 and 4

I love the grain of the pear wood and the shape of your spoons. It sounds bizarre but they look as though they'd be really easy and lovely to use. I tend to carve mine with longer handles so that I can get to the bottom of the dehydrated meal bags without covering my fingers; however, yours...

Brilliant! I can now ditch the stupidly weighty Heavy Covers lid I've been carrying around!
