Help me get my pack weight down

There are definitely some tweaks you can make and some items you can ditch, as above, but if you’re finding your current load heavy the main culprits are probably your carry system and your packing. You do seem to have a lot of bulky stuff. I’d look at exchanging for lighter modern fibres with...

    Blade ID help please!

TWCA cams are those really round symmetrical curve blades. Like almost a complete circle.

    What did you buy today?

Saw the name & thought you’d found a volley gun! Looks a nice piece though.

    Blade ID help please!

Yes that is my usual MO. Convinced myself that I needed one without any evidence. Ah well, it will save someone else having to wait an age for one. I have 3 others by Nic & love them but think I only ordered this one to complete the set. Took the photos with iPhone 14Pro.

    Blade ID help please!

Hi all. Going through my carving kit as I’m going to start again ( again!) with doing some spoons so thought I should give them all a quick strop & check over. I’d forgotten all about this very tight curve blade I bought quite a while ago. I obviously don’t need it as I never bothered to put a...

    Board Game Suggestions.

I saw one the other day online ( no idea where ) which uses neodymium magnets as playing “stones”. You take turns to place a stone within a string circle. If you’re too close to another it will jump onto your stone and you then have to take the extra one & play again. Winner is whoever places...

    Frontier Bushcraft Intermediate Wilderness Course

I think that many of the courses available are run by ex Woodlore instructors which makes me wonder how much more you get from a Woodlore course. Obviously if you have RM instructing personally there’s a definite bonus at a price.

What are your favourite pocket knives?

My K’roo Chunky Frank is getting lots of pocket time at the moment & if I’m at work at the bar I have a RRR Barback as well. If I’m suited & booted it’s a K’roo mini friction folder in the waistcoat pocket & possibly a Laguiole waiter’s knife in the jacket pocket.

Canoes / kayaks - family recommendations?

I love my Grumman, although it hasn’t been on the lake this year as I’ve changed cars & haven’t got a roof rack for it yet. It is very light & very quick, but as above, now very attractive to thieves, even just for scrap! If you can find one at a good price jump on it.

Transporting canoes / kayaks in a van with poptop roof?

I have been across Windermere in an inflatable ( Sevylor Colorado ) quite a few times. It was a bit scary to get caught in the wake from the big steamers but otherwise not too bad. They are quite slow to manoeuvre out of the way of anything though so you need to rely on others being awake! I do...
