    Withdrawn Few knives for sale/trade

FYI Macho the entire listing shows as Withdrawn, I'm unsure if that's intentional so letting you know!

Withdrawn POST OFFICE DESTROYING KNIFE - THE END !!!

If that's an option, I would 1000% go for that! A major issue with their prohibited items list is the 'and any similar items', which is entirely qualitative. As 'battle axes' are specified as prohibited, I don't think other axes are that safe. I did read somewhere about them encouraging the...

Withdrawn POST OFFICE DESTROYING KNIFE - THE END !!!

Your can't yet use Special Delivery as it doesn't have the required age verified option, so you have to use the age verified method which has a much lower insurance cover. Hopefully they add it as an option to Special Delivery. You could look into getting independent insurance cover, like...

Powering gadgets - battery banks or solar charger?

When working out how many times your power bank can charge your device(s) you need to consider the Watt hours not the mAh. This video explains why perfectly:

    High r rating mat

Fellmandave on YouTube has a dog he takes on some pretty cold camps, and has a proper set-up for the dog. I can't find a specific video dealing with it, but it might be worth a look/asking him.

Buying my first sleeping bag, Snugpack or something else?

I got mine from this company, but the website appears to be down: http://www.marwiarmystore.nl/ At the time (years ago) they recommended phoning them to get the Carinthia gear as by the time they went live on the website they sold instantly.

Buying my first sleeping bag, Snugpack or something else?

Keep asking! There's no limit to the knowledge on here, but you have reached mine as I've only ever used the Dutch military set from Carinthia; not familiar with the fleece liners. The Defence 1 doesn't look to have the zippered mozzie panel that the milsurp one does so perhaps there's a...

Buying my first sleeping bag, Snugpack or something else?

I'm not up to date with Carinthia's models, but have you checked to see if any of the Dutch military surplus bags made by Carinthia (not Fecsa) meet your needs? They'll likely be much cheaper, simply because they're not the civilian version, and they're used condition (to a lesser or greater...

Wording of ‘zombie knife and machete’ ban being reported?

I don't understand this part - you're saying they didn't commit a prosecutable offence by having fixed blades in their possession without good reason?

Buying my first sleeping bag, Snugpack or something else?

I really like the Trekology UL80, and use it in conjunction with a foam mat to protect it as well as to act as a back-up if the air mat fails. It is not a warm pad, and indeed the R value indicated doesn't claim that it is either. I switch to a very warm Exped Synmat Winter UL LW for the colder...

Wording of ‘zombie knife and machete’ ban being reported?

That's why this type of ban is always so reductive; it's already an offence to be out with any of these things without good reason, so it's almost certainly just political posturing. Be seen to be doing something which you know will have no additional impact, just to be seen to be doing something.

Wording of ‘zombie knife and machete’ ban being reported?

Reasonable thinking would have that as absolutely not a zombie knife. If you consider the circumstances in which that might be considered such, I'd reckon they'd be having you for other reasons, even if it was found in your shed. But the only criteria it meets beyond the baseline is regarding...

If there is one piece of kit that’s gone, you could bring back what is it ?

Berghaus Extrem insulated and very water resistant coat. Can't find reference to it in any of their back catalogues, with all the coats called the same thing looking completely different. Packs down small, synthetic insulation, extremely comfortable.

The 'I've found a bargain' thread

A point of interest (albeit limited...) is that JD isn't a bourbon (doesn't meet the criteria) though it's widely misunderstood to be so. The Shining film didn't help with that.

    Bivvy advice wanted

Using things like TX Direct Wash-in on Goretex/breathable membranes seems odd, as you're making the inside of the garment/bivi water repellent too? Whilst by spraying, using something like TX Direct Spray-on, you control what areas get the coating, i.e. only the exterior fabric that needs the...
