So I have these boots about 10 years old - suede and goretex, and made by Scarpa.
They're not showing much signs of wear but I was wondering how best to get them as waterproof (whilst still breathable) as possible.
Thanks for any tips.
You're not given the route until an hour before your start time and smart phones and GPS are not allowed. There's not big secrets about the terrain - undulating fields of farrowed clay fields destined to cake your boots in approximately half a tonne of gloopy soil within about five metres of the...
Thanks a lot, guys. This info is invaluable. I think Chinagraphs are what I'll go with. Now, what colour! Hoppinmad has got me thinking - looking at an os map, blue seems like it would stand out.
Are these chinagraph pencils easy to use on laminated maps? Do they show up clearly, and is the mark suitably permanent not to come off in heavy rain/mud/user error!
Niiiice! That seems like a good solution. Might try and find something between the two that can stand up to a rain lashing a bit better than tracing paper.
They look good. I was wondering whether the non-permanent Staedtler Lumocolor Map makers would be durable enough, but Mesquite's comment seems to suggest not!
As per the title really. Taking part in a psuedo-orienteering walk called Tour De Trigs. They give you a set of grid references and you have to walk from A to B to C. It's 50 miles mostly in darkness.
I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas about how to mark out the route clearly and...
Having been eaten alive last summer in Sardinia, I'm keen to try something other than the ineffective (and apparently highly toxic) DEET I used last year. Searching on here I've found mention of Avon's Skin So Soft, but there seems to be some confusion about which of that range is the one to...
Gah! The Lichfield's been vetoed - too "old school" apparently. SWMBO is having none of it.
I love the thin shoulder straps and the overall design of the Forclaz 37 Ultralight:
But I'm dubious about the durability of the ultralight material, and the zip opening down the middle.
If...
That looks good - I like the fact it's 600 denier material and the design looks good and straightforward. Ideally I was after something without side pockets, but I could live with that.
How are the shoulder straps - they look a little narrow.
Trying to decide on a good pack to take on holiday to make the most of my carry-on luggage allowance.
Dimensions allowed: 56cmx45cmx25cm
This seems to equate (judging by the out-of-my-price-range bags made exactly to fit) to approx 40l
So I'm after a sub-£50 35-45 litre pack with tough...
Thanks for the info Beamdune! Like the look of the Vangoes - was hoping for a cheaper solution but even if the advice is "buy a more expensive tent" it's still gratefully received!
Thanks for the replies Dave and Mike.
I'm basically looking for a tent for me and my girlfriend. She likes a bit of space, and in the last tent we had my head touched one end and my feet touched the other (I'm not massive - 6'2).
Unfortunately we have to take it on the plane so weight is an...
Looking for a tent for summer camping.
Would like it to be a palace that weighs nothing and can be bought for peanuts but wishing aside I've been looking at:
Decathlon's Quechua T4+
L240 x W220 x H130 and a 140cm vestibule. Weight: 5.6kg
And
Coleman's Crestline 4 Tent...
Gah! You made me look! Didn't know about this and now it's too late for me to book the time off. Damn shame because I'd have loved to do some of those workshops - not sure whether the missus would have been too happy though.
