    Best Backpack For My Needs?

I'm also a fan of 5.11 stuff, so I'd check those out. I also rate Decathlon for excellent value for money - their "Solognac" hunting brand has some options that might appeal... https://www.decathlon.co.uk/browse/b/solognac/c0-accessories/c1-bags/c2-backpacks/_/N-1340n07Z6vjs8j

    Campsite Coffee

Thanks. I might need to give that a try. Currently, I'm looking at how close I can get to what we have at home. It's a Moka pot and a pan. Hardly cutting-edge. Without wishing to appear rude, if that technology is beyond you, I wonder if the last century is really for you. ;) Another...

    Campsite Coffee

How do you brew your coffee when out and about? We're not hardcore campers, but we go campsite camping with the family a few times each year. This year one site only had electric-hook-up spaces left, so we took full advantage and took the Nespresso machine. At home, we've used semi-decent...

    Any good windproof lighters?

Thanks for all the suggestions... Cheers. I'll give one of these a try.

    Any good windproof lighters?

I picked up a SOTO Pocket Torch XT last year because it looked like the perfect tool for lighting barbecues, firepits etc. It turned out to be utterly woeful. Often it won't even light indoors. I've tried a Soto Micro Torch which is more reliable but loses out on the extendability of the Pocket...

    Best budget camping axe?

Thanks. I noticed this too, and really ummed and ahed over the choice - in the end, because I want to teach our children to use it, and thought the X10 more awkward to pack, and couldn't find the X10 in stock at a decent price, I went for the X7. It's arrived and feels smaller than I expected...

    Best budget camping axe?

Thanks all - I had a look around and settled on the Fiskars X7 recommended by @MikeeMiracle - its 25 year warranty was what swung it.

    Best budget camping axe?

Hi there - I was wondering if anyone could help me select a budget axe for when we take the family camping. We go a few times a year, but we're not heavily into bushcrafting - I just want something that'll do the job. Is there a bare-minimum specification I should look out for? Essentially...

    Best Headtorch?

Thanks for the replies. I stuck with the Fenix HP25R in the end - after a deal came up and I got it for £49 delivered. I've not had much use so far, and I haven't got fully to grips with the interface. So far it has impressed and overall I'm very pleased. My only real negative is more a...

    Best Headtorch?

That looks good. IIRC LEDlenser gets good feedback regarding durability too. I'm put off by the lack of data on run times, and the Fenix HP25R seems (compared to the slightly dubious data I've been able to find on the LEDLenser) to have more efficient lumen-minute performance.

    Best Headtorch?

Thanks for the replies. I'm an idiot, I meant that I was looking at the HP25R, not the HP30R. It only has one 18650, and seems to produce more "lumen-minutes" out of the battery than its bigger, more expense counterpart. What's the deal with the recommendation for the Snipersystems torch...

    Best Headtorch?

I'm after an all-rounder headtorch mainly for a 24hr walk in December. It'll be possibly be used continuously for 10 hours to see the terrain in front of us - so low power, floody, lightweight (or battery pack not worn on the head). It also needs a bit of throw to help pick out features for...

    Old fashioned rucksack?

For a daypack, being able to access from more than one point of entry, and being able to get at everything without pulling it all out, is something I rate pretty highly. Still not finding anything that fully meets the brief - so I concede I may be alone in that requirement.

    Old fashioned rucksack?

Oooo! That looks like just the thing. (I've always been a bit wary of Dueter, and Osprey because their fabrics seem fragile - but I know that's flawed thinking as my parents both have them and have used them extensively without problems). Thanks a lot - I'm going to look at them more closely...

    Old fashioned rucksack?

Thanks for the suggestions - Aiguille look very nice (especially as made in UK) but too expensive for something that doesn't quite tick all the boxes - need side pockets and easy access. Currently looking at Lowe Alpine which seem to be decent quality and have some suitable options (although...

    Old fashioned rucksack?

I'm after a daypack to take on holiday, but I'm struggling to find anything suitable. Ideally, I'd love:- Shape of something like the Highlander Forces 25 or 33l - ie big central compartment (for waterproofs, and food), large top pocket (for snacks and other junk), and two decent side...

Stuff to carry on the Tube in London

Yeah, like Mesquite, I carry water - after being stuck on your first broken down tube train, that's an essential. I forgot to mention that I have a protein/energy bar in my bag too - don't really think of it as an emergency item, hence not thinking about it. It's in there just in case I get...

Stuff to carry on the Tube in London

Those are good points, which I'm trying to reconcile. My question is essentially, "Is there anything worth carrying which could be used (not necessarily by me) without training that might make a difference?" The only item I've thought of so far and regards which training may be an issue is the...

Stuff to carry on the Tube in London

Thanks for the reply Mesquite. Likewise - same for me up to now. Seriously think there's little point, but I have a relatively decent lightweight headtorch and the trauma bandages, and the blankets and masks are a couple of quid for packs of 5, and the the torch is the heaviest thing. I posted...

Stuff to carry on the Tube in London

I'm moving out of London in a month or so, and I know that some proper first aid training is top of the list, but there is no time. For the next month, does anyone have any suggestions for any items that it might be worth carrying when I'm travelling through London "just in case"? I appreciate...
