    The Covid19 Thread

Erm...... you do know I'm currently locked down in Spain don't you? I'm not going to argue with you Broch, my intentions here are to hopefully give people a head start on what's about to hit.. You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts. We should be talking about what...

    The Covid19 Thread

It's good that you've taken it seriously Woody girl, I'm really worried the lack of others doing so! I can't believe the lack of posts here, the other things folks are occupying themselves with right now other than preparation will seem so insignificant shortly! Talking to family in the UK...

    The Covid19 Thread

Judging by the UK news this morning the enormousness of this is being released little by little to avoid more panic......... All I can say is take the slowing of the spread seriously, it's being acknowledged now that the NHS is going to be overloaded. This is exactly the time when...

It's quite likely it will become an annual threat the same as Flu, but by then we will have inoculations & vaccines the same as Flu, so risk will probably also be the same as Flu......maybe. Apparently about a year is needed to develop & test vaccines.

Broch, you sound like you are in the absolute perfect position to avoid getting infected so I' m not sure I understand your original idea. The best thing you can do is not get it, if you do get it get it after the panic is over & the services will be in a much better position to help you & will...

Except, when do you know you've got it? Do you know you are not infected right now?

    The Covid19 Thread

I don't understand why the Government is desperately seeking hospital ventilators as they admit the 5000 currently in the UK are nowhere near enough ("we need many times more"), so they know it's going to get bad yet it seems they are doing very little to limit the spread/infection.? I...

    The Covid19 Thread

Good luck with your strategy, seeing as this virus is infecting far far more of the population than any statistics can keep up with I hope you're not one needing life saving treatment when there isn't the facilities (can anyone knock up ventilators in their shed quickly? Lots of money to be...

    The Covid19 Thread

I'm in Spain & everyone is being advised (law on Monday) to stay at home except for work, supermarket or chemist, tax & social payments are put on hold for the self employed like me, same as being on the sick. Similar to France, Italy etc Not everyone will go to work as many places will be...

Anyone know what this old tool is?

Ended up reshaping the old palm cutter as it had a crack in the inner 90° (not surprising really as it's a stress riser) as can actually be seen in post #24 & made a rough handle, might be good for something..... Then I got given a N.O.S one today........... need a long handle for it...

Anyone know what this old tool is?

Thanks ;) The reason for my whinging was when I found the rusty tool it reminded me of this thread where everyone was trying to guess at peat cutters etc, I knew what the tool was & in post #22 made a link (that still works) to the same tool new & didn't get so much as a "that's it", in...

Anyone know what this old tool is?

I got this in a box of old tools today & it reminded me of this old thread where I was ignored.... :) A palm cutter (in Spain) normally mounted on a long handle & sharpened on three sides to push & pull cut palm fronds.

    John Watts Easifold knife

I have one, it's an old one marked with DSM branding so I assume it was a promotional knife , a lovely little knife with an interesting fold but "little" is the main thing to note, not apparent when looking at pictures of it with no scale. Mine has a 43mm cutting edge & is 65mm closed so...

Anyone know what this old tool is?

Here in Spain it would have a long straight wooden shaft & be used for pruning palm trees. Like this- http://www.cuchilleriaflores.es/producto/marcolas-varios-modelos/ Don't know about the UK but if it's from a nursery maybe something similar?
