    Degrees of variation (from North)

It doesn't stick, moves OK & works fine.... ....but it is a little yellow & a bit like a "snow storm" if shaken because of the rust like debris. :D I think I shall write a strongly worded letter to Silva, I expect better seeing as I've only used it for around 40 years.

    Degrees of variation (from North)

I've just tried with an ancient Silva 7NL I've had since the 80's (reliable I don't know!) and I'd agree at four degrees difference to my phone.

Real knives in the old west.

Oh dear, that's sad. August just gone apparently. I see there is still some stock about for sale but they used to be better value, I remember them being maybe £10~20 range for the everyday sizes & biggish butchers knives which was quite something for a made in the USA product.... Having...

For Sale Vintage metro ticket machine

Wow, looking at that last image made me feel old as this little song popped into my head from nowhere~ "Ker-ching a work, ker-ching a school, ker-ching a cheaper, ker-ching a saver strip".......... Please someone else say they remember it too!......

Real knives in the old west.

He mentioned casks as well, same as the "trade axes" (hatchets) that were shipped across the Atlantic as heads in barrels, the Basque region being one of the places supplying them. It looks like Sheffield did the same with knife blades. The guy didn't seem all that knowledgeable on the...

    Alexa

I bought the tall older cylindrical one a few years ago as it has a reasonable sounding speaker, my other half is a language teacher & it's been fun to us for students to ask questions in English as the pronunciation has to be relatively good. Being in Spain it's great for UK radio over the...

    1980s Survival catalogue pages

Do you know where you got it? I wonder where these were made as there isn't any makers mark or anything, were they a Survival Aids knife only I wonder? In the 80's were Chinese manufactured import knives common? Or more likely Japan or Germany...? Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks RR, I was browsing this thread when I spotted a familiar knife..... ....I inherited one from my Dad some time ago & a search turned up nothing (not surprising really), I know he bought it at one of the 80's Game Fairs. All for £18.95 including huge choil. A bucket full...

Agreed, but I happen to be in a country having this happen earlier than the UK, we are all following a similar courses of action with similar results. I imagine soon-ish London will be locked down with the military helping Police it, if you look what's happened in other countries it just...

Broch, it's great if you ("we, all" are you the spokesperson?) knew what was coming, I certainly didn't & it took quite some time to sink in & I still feel like I'm dreaming this sometimes, I don't mind admitting a couple of weeks ago I thought it'd all be kept under control & didn't give it too...

    The Covid19 Thread

I can see how "getting it early" could seem beneficial, the problem with this idea is how many are infected right now? The official numbers are nowhere near the amount of infected people out there & the official numbers will increase massively very soon, same as the countries that are ahead in...

Yes. But if only other people had a fraction of your paranoimia, just seen a Wolverhampton gym full of people (or should I say idiots) on C4 working out because they think they are all "alright Jack", unbelievable! But I realise there is only so much can be absorbed at any moment trying...

    The Covid19 Thread

We had a similar problem when Madrid (central Spain) was "locked down", lots of the inhabitants who had holiday homes set off to them, mainly all along the costas (coast) bringing infection with them.......very thoughtful! They were supposed to stay put, that's what " lockdown" is supposed to...

    The Covid19 Thread

The patients needing a ventilator might be using it for around three weeks, that's why so many will be required. The time spent on the ventilator gives the body's own immune system extra time to overcome Covid 19 while having breathing difficulties. Germany & France manufacture...
