    Navigation recommendations-UK centric options.

Isn't the whole map system already UK - centric enough? So far I am informed, the newest Francis Barker compass model also points to Greenwich. Breithaupt is working on a compass that points to Kassel though and Cammenga recently developed one that points to Washington. Unsure if the last...

    Walnut for logging axe handle?

Walnut was used for gun stock because it is the lightest of the robust woods. I never heard of a walnut axe handle and there is surely a reason for it. Axe handles are usually made of ash if not hickory.

Language the other side of the pond.

Years ago I met in a Youth Hostel a fantastic girl from Ireland and immediately fell in love just by looking at her. Unfortunately I didn't understand her at all. :wideyed:

    hi from Gateshead

Hi and welcome! The best is to go in the middle of nowhere of course. No, not really. The best is locating yourself next to a lovely little town in bicycle distance. And having all technical options is no fault. You don't necessarily have to use them. Living off grid isn't so great as people...

The Norwegian Military Tent Sheet System KNAPPETELT

Yes, quite a lot of military equipment is very beautifully designed and camouflage patterns usually look for me like a piece of modern art. I think the old ones were actually painted by artists.

    Hello from the Pyrenees

Generally a red or orange Bic lighter and an Opinel No8 Carbone are a good investment if you want to get started with bushcraft.

What a good knife to use for cooking and bushcraft

Get a Fiskars X7 hatchet and use that for wood splitting for fire preparation. I would try the flexible mask for it that they offer seperately. And get an Opinel No9 Carbone for food preparation and anything else apart from wood splitting and you are very well equipped. Don't throw the knife...

    Bats......

Are that megabats / flying foxes? We have a part in the zoo of Berlin were they switch on the light at night and keep the house relatively dark during the day. Like this you can watch them. I loved them when I was a child and surely did spend many weeks there.

    Best Bushcraft Knife to Buy?

Sorry, I got lost in the deep woods of Brandenburg. No, not really, but I had quite a bit to work, so no time to come here. The majority of regular visiting members in this forum is in my opinion absolutely able to survive in German forests and even able to recommend a good knife for that...

    Best Bushcraft Knife to Buy?

Well, but as he lives in Berlin and asked for a survival knife we probably should talk about robust fix blade knives that are legal to carry in Berlin on a daily base and well usable in the here realistically expected weather conditions. You don't need to go to Poland to get lost in a dark...

    Best Bushcraft Knife to Buy?

These here are for sure no adequate survival knives but nevertheless worth to mention, because if you just want to learn how to use and maintain a knife they are good enough: That's good for carving and food preparation...

    Best Bushcraft Knife to Buy?

Welcome to the Foum! Now we are here already two Berliners. :mexwave: You can get in Brandenburg -25°C in the night. If you look out of the window now it isn't so easy imaginable, but in can indeed happen, and -15°C is quite usual in most years, of course just for a couple of days in most...

And if @TLM is right with his opinion that the leaves suck red light, you can see your way but the enemy can't see you. The land owner for example. Or the illegal wild camper. ;)

    Red light head torch

If you give your horses everytime when you switch on your white lamp a piece of sugar they will surely love that lamp pretty soon. The pure brightness may be a problem though. I currently look myself for a stronger lamp and find the NiteCore HC 65 V2 and the HC 68 pretty interesting because...
