    Common survival and outdoor items.

I actually have a story about that. In my scout group every single one of us was dreaming about a proper rambo/military/survival knife. Any surplus or china clone was always in high demand. One of my friends, Kamil, found an old Mora in the field when his dad took him hunting. Mind you 20 years...

    Common survival and outdoor items.

After over 20 years of trying out, rethinking and upgrading my outdoor kit I have reached the point where the few items I own are top quality. Many space technologies and the best goose down works for me to keep me warm and comfortable and my back in top condition. It's a true joy to use and...

Overseas Taking bushcraft (and EDC) gear on a plane - airport experiences.

Just got a very painful memory. My Leatherman Charge Ti disappeared from my checked luggage at Liverpool airport 10 years ago...

Overseas Taking bushcraft (and EDC) gear on a plane - airport experiences.

The surrealism of the whole situation is that you can buy everything you need to hijack or destroy an airplane in the shops past the security. Glass blade made out of a wine bottle? A gallon of alcohol to burn the thing down? Electronics and tools to disrupt the workings? No problem. Not to...

Overseas Taking bushcraft (and EDC) gear on a plane - airport experiences.

I only travel light with my carry on. Here is my experience: YES: Flashlights, lighters, ferrorods, matches, tarps, ponchos, 1st aid kits, sewing and repair kits. NO: Anything sharp (blunt nose scissors in a clearly marked 1st aid kit will work), any multitools, any tools (I got in trouble for...

    helikon sachel

Agree 100% with the guy. I found any form of one shoulder bags or slings best used around the camp for bits and bobs. When you get to the naughty corner you can hand this on the side of your chair and have access to everything. throw in a poncho, a sandwich and a bottle of water and the weight...

Where can I but a decent ferrorod striker?

Exactly what I was looking for, thank you. Regarding sturdiness. In my experience more than enough. And steel just doesn't come close to how ceramic bites the ferrocerium.

Where can I but a decent ferrorod striker?

I had a go with ceramic scrapers and they are incredible. I would love a ceramic or tungsten striker. Not a big fan of the hacksaw blades either.

Where can I but a decent ferrorod striker?

There is plenty of ferrorods out there in every possible size. But I'm struggling to find a standalone striker. Need something to save my knife when I play with my firesteels. I know I can make one from a piece of hacksaw etc but do you know of anything I can actually buy?

    Wanted Titanium cup 450ml.

Looking for a titanium cup in 450ml capacity (not 400ml or 420ml). Don't care about the brand or weight, cheaper the better. Can't be fire scorched. Thanks.

    Carrying your fire steel

Doesn't look great on a tiny neck knife but you will get the idea. Piece of inner tube. Lets you fit a variety of items from a lighter to a ferrorod and for example mini light. And at the same time you have a some emergency waterproof tinder and a source of ranger bands.

Fire kit, am I missing something.

Unfortunately no. They actually take it on trips, often as a part of even bigger "Survival kit". Honestly, I'm all for gadgets and bling. But some YT videos boggle the mind. Just search "survival kit", "EDC kit" or "fire kit".

Fire kit, am I missing something.

It's just a random picture from google search. But it looks like some kind of folding saw. Popular item in those elaborate kits. That would be my bet.

Fire kit, am I missing something.

Can't recommend this 8 episodes mini series enough. I have a ferro rod, but only for fun and one of my backups.

Fire kit, am I missing something.

From what I have seen on YT this is one of the more reasonable kits. Couple of solid sources of fire, but I don't like the fragmentation in the tinder department. But it would be a great starter kit so experiment with various tinders and when you are done you will be left with few solid...
