    Bulletproof vs lightweight

Just using the example of rucksacks ... much applies across the board. I have few Kifaru packs of different sizes (30-90L); very robust. Also a couple of tough Black Diamond climbing packs (25-35L). Same with Arc'teryx; sort of mid to light weight. Plus some variously lightweight packs made by...

My grandad used to get it, but for putting in pillows

    Dutch army bivvy upgrade

Yes Basha - https://www.ebay.ca/itm/124940624531 I don't think you will be able to count on one bit of DPM looking the same as another. There is a fresher and duller looking pattern anyway, different manufacturers, aging, different materials etc. mean you will get more or less similar, same...

    What are you preserving?

Couple of jars of sauerkraut with the usual cabbage/caraway procedure, plus a kale version as an experiment. Some pickled red cabbage. Its not so much preserving, though obviously that too, but more that I just like the taste. Picked up some pectin to make room in the freezer. Too many blueberries.

    Best EDC Prybar?

You can get this 2" Widgy for literally one or two dollars on Amazon. This one cost 15USD. I have seen them for nearly 50USD. There's a cheapo 4" version too. The single issue to think about is are you paying to have U.S. Govt. stamped on the side or is the possible softness of the steel used...

If there is one piece of kit that’s gone, you could bring back what is it ?

Sold my ventile SASS and bought a Snowsled then later found a gaberdine SAS smock cheap, so I am fine with that. But ... One thing I miss is Gene Ingram's knives ... just knowing he was still making was a comfort. But he's stopped now. Banged himself up in the workshop, then retired. The other...

    What did you buy today?

Admission to the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough. Acceptable dress code was short-sleeved plaid shirt, cargo shorts, Keens and a Tilley (and be over 75). I was woefully poorly attired. The shop seems to have missed a step - no Tilley hats for sale :) Lovely visit though. At a guess - 700...

    A great night's sleep

I just try and make sure I am good and knackered. Can fall asleep on my nose then, dreamless. What wakes me is overheating, so a breathable bed is good. I have a -10 and a -20 bag, but I tend to sweat in them. So, if I can, and it's not always the best solution, I do appreciate the opportunity...

    What is this?

It's the valve they use to pump up the planet. Leave it alone or we'll deflate.

Recommendation for good Tent for Garden Bushcraft?

I think I'd re-prioritize. Build a proper shed/workshop in the garden first, and let developments flow from there

Cocktails... whats all the fuss about?

Usually I don't like mixing drinks together, thinking they probably have a taste of their own worth lingering over. But, I will happily dribble a bit of brandy into a glass of stout. And, like many modern metrosexuals, I'll drink an awful lot of negronis at a sitting, given the opportunity.

    The other half - Handles.

Thanks for asking. Gave me the opportunity to (kind of unsuccessfully) clean up a couple of these Spydercos. The Ironwood Delica is in the middle. Unfortunately, I gave it a wipe of teak oil, and that has rather hidden the pattern in the wood a bit; at least for now. I think these must be all...

Too hot for me and Mimi, so a paddle in Costers Brook

We have these black winged damsels here. https://toronto-wildlife.com/Insects/Damselflies/Broad_winged/damselfly_broad_winged.html The pics don't capture how black they are in flight. Light just falls into them :) The black-bodied ones look very cool.

Packable daypack in Cordura or similar?

These MRs are excellent. I have a couple :) Osprey Daylite and the Arcteryx light packs in this volume range are good too. Just a note to add that serious, heavy-duty cordura doesn't pack down terribly well

Selling knives privately and auction houses in UK?

That doesn't sound right, the thing about not allowing a knife in your hold luggage. Doesn't mean it's not right, just doesn't sound right.

Been watching videos of folks building rough log cabins in the woods, calling it bushcraft

I don't know why they do it, but it isn't hurting anyone and it keeps them off the streets. :) Lots of people have an urge to build a house themselves, but most people don't have the skills or loot or time to build a proper one. So, running up a semi-ept loggy hutlet might do to scratch the itch...

    EDC Bag Recommendations

You might try looking at the Filson site. Canvas and costy-ish but will outlast you and become more and more handsome. Try eBay/Etsy for a used one They are less modish now than they have been. The brief case or the 24 hour might suit you :)
