If you had no ties and money wasn’t an issue, where would you move to?

The trend has been gradually growing for decades. However the pandemic gave it a shove. Property prices exploded as people forced to work from home sought to upgrade those homes, either by remodeling or simply buying bigger homes. Others who weren’t so lucky as to be able to work from home...

Air drying / curing pork foods... in Wales.

Frost also means no pesky bugs and a time to reduce the herd before having to feed them through winter.

What ever happened to a bloke called....

Yeah I’ve wondered about him as well. I asked on her a few years ago and somebody gave me the answer that he had a new son and between his service and family he probably doesn’t have much time anymore. I miss his posts a lot. Lannyman8 if I remember correctly.

    Traditional headwear?

I have a flat cap I bought long ago at Cotswold Woolen Weavers in Filkins Nr Lechlade. I still love that cap. My usual go to nowadays is my felt western hat. @Herman30 My ears get cold as well but that an be solved by adding a winter scarf. And/Or turning up the coat collars.

Air drying / curing pork foods... in Wales.

@Pattree i can answer at least one question (what time of the year is it traditionally done?) At least for over here. Commercial hogs nowadays are slaughtered and processed year round but back in the day when small farmers raised their own they were traditionally killed at the first frost (hence...

    Stoopid jokes

Chuck Norris once attended a feminist rally. While there they ironed his shirt and made him a sandwich.

The holes being cross shaped make me lean toward incense burner also. Possibly part of a military chaplain’s field kit?

If you had no ties and money wasn’t an issue, where would you move to?

I understand wha I know what you mean. I’m a Southerner (US) and for us ties to extended families is just part of the culture. That said, most of them are already scattered anyway. So seeing them in person means travel is just another reality. With unlimited funds even frequent long journeys...

How's the weather where you are ?

111f (about 44c) before 09:00 just a few days ago and it's still June. We're still preheating. Tornado over Pensacola Beach last night. Beautiful out this morning.

XL summer hats - definitely not Tilley!

Ironically I first came across BCUK while looking for a hat. Now I'm looking for a good Panama hat but the real ones made of toquilla straw are expensive and generally only available online.

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

I see a lot of comments about how we need to reduce our power usage and comparing today to times past. True enough we could each reduce what we consume with minimal discomfort but that's not as effective as it might seem. Going back to the 60s and 70s as many of us relate for our childhoods it's...

    International Men's Day.

Yeah, there are always some that are a heartbeat and a paycheck away from failure. That said, they arent among what I meant by "successful." the majority that I knew went for civil service jobs, highly skilled trades, back to school for a free education or training courtesy of their GI benefits...

    What's for Supper?

Well, not supper but lunch a short time ago. Me and Barbara took advantage of our youngest grandson, Carson's, elememtary school policy and signed in as visitors to have lunch with him. He had asked me yesterday if we would. Just a fast food burger we had brought with us but it was great being...

    International Men's Day.

Mostly I saw the opposite. The traditional veterans groups like VFW and AL were begging Vietnam vets to join because their molder members were dying off from old age. The younger vets (my generation) just generally showed no interest. Fortunately that changed in the 1980s. Regarding the ratio...

    International Men's Day.

I'm sorta in agreement with you. However I'm unsure of which is causal and which is effect. Growing up in the 60s and 70s boys usually had fathers influencing their lives: even if their parents had separated or divorced, they both continued to help with the children (so the male role model was...

    International Men's Day.

I think 1 pint is less "numbing the pain" and more "about lubricating the conversation." And yes, unwinding from the day's tensions at the pub instead of dragging your problems home is probably very good for the relationship.
