Newbie shopping ... Laugh at my choices

It was the early BG knives that had the problem with the handle splitting, in the later knives the problem was fixed. I've got one, and it's been fine. It's not a bad knife once you get past the snobbery about the BG issue. You can, however get far more knife for much less money.

Lord of the Rings Themed Spoon

Looking at the video, 1. Your spoon knife is blunt, it seems to be scraping the wood out of the bowl, not cutting. 2. Your technique is dangerous, 3. You seem to be trying to take too much wood off at once. 1. Sharpen your tools, strop as well, blunt tools make it harder to work and are...

What is jute twine made of

This is going to sound silly, Jute. As I recall, it's a fibre from India, and is soaked in oil when processed. (Used to be whale oil, Dundee was a world centre for Jute production and whaling)

underquilt and top quilt (snugpak or uk hammocks)

I've had my snugpack under/overquilt down to -10 (with an extra woollen blanket though) and I was fine and toasty. For the packing/compressability I use a dry bag with an air vent, and the quilts, hammock, mossie net et al go inside. I tie the hammock to a tree, and walk it out of the sack, then...

Even GRRM is vague on who did the deed. Personally I suspect the Queen of Thorns, but time will tell.

    Good but reasonably priced rucksack?

Packing the stuff you "might use" is what leads to people needing a 120l bergen on their back and an all arms pack on their front..... :D If it's something you use, it's in pile one. When I was travelling to the Moot, it was the one camp I went on that I used public transport, That meant I...
