    Scissor handles

All of the cheap scissors I've ever seen only have a very short stub going into the molded plastic handle. I don't think you'd have enough material to support the wood and rivet if you tried to replace the plastic. Might be a good time to support Wright & Son Ltd and get some quality...

Hook knife wooden sheath: my take

Brilliant idea, hoss. I'll definitely be putting this on the to-do list.

    10 000 dollar men's leather bag

If there's one thing I've learned about marketing, it's that the story is every bit as important as the product. People are weird creatures and will pay big money for stuff that they think will give them a social boost. Maybe I should start marketing my ironwork with super-high prices...

    Anvil maker identification ?

Hit it with a wire brush to knock off the dirt and loose rust, that scatter on some chalk powder, flour or other white stuff. That will make the lettering pop out considerably. Very nice looking anvil, and I don't doubt that it wills serve you well over the next century or two.

    Forging an adze...

She took to the heat treatment like a champ. Brought her to a nice orange and let it soak for a few minutes, then a nice warm oil bath to loosen her tired muscles. Shined the edge with a stone and watched for the colors to turn. I got her to a real pretty shade of bluish purple which I've...

    Forging an adze...

:D :D Something to be said for being specific, ay?!? :D :D Yes, the fuller has a stem that fits the hardy hole on the anvil. I'm working on another fullering gizmo that's more like the Smithing Magician, but I'll always keep the godzilla handy. I made another arm for it that acts as a...

    Forging an adze...

It certainly would, but that wouldn't be a very practical application. Better to put a handle on it and use it for chopping into wood.... :D

    Forging an adze...

One fullering jig.... this shot was when she was brand new and all shiny. The idea is that the bolts allow you to move the jaws depending on the thickness of the stock. In this application, I only used the top die. The radiused end of the die allowed me to reach in and fuller right...

    Forging an adze...

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and I've talked about wanting an adze for far too long. When I happened across an old mason's hammer in my box of spare rusty stuff, I decided it would make a far better adze than hammer. And considering that I'd never used it as a hammer, that...

third elbow adze and some spoons

That's beautiful work, hoss. I'm quite envious of your adzes and will have to start making some for myself. What type of heat-treat are you giving them? Looks like you're starting with something like quarter-inch stock maybe inch-ina-half wide and maybe six inches long. Have you noticed a...

    elbow adzes

Beautiful work, hoss. I keep saying I'm going to forge an adze like that, but I just never get around to it. Your photos have given me a much needed boost, though, and I've asked my father to keep a look out for suitable handles on his land. He's always cutting trees for this or that. As for...

Old Kiln Forge Afternoon And An Apron Fix...

Wonderful leatherwork. I opted to buy a cheap leather apron when I needed one, and now I'm thinking about adding straps like you've done just to make the apron more "blacksmithy". It's got to feel mighty good to know that your handiwork is going to be with that smith for many many years to come.

    Homemade Sharpening Contraption.

Truly spectacular. I love the combo of metals and how you managed to make it look so delightfully steampunk. The only downside I can see is that you won't sell it to me! I really hate not owning such a splendid contraption.

Axe and bucksaw case / pouch

Wonderfully done. I've never heard of such a contraption before, but I can sure see how it could come in handy! Now I've got another project to put on the list....

    hammer to adze

Beautiful work. Creating that curl was absolutely genius and really makes the piece jump out at you. I'll definitely have to keep this in mind.....

Bowl adzed out of a piece of green beech

Nice work. I'd like to see this bowl adze you speak of as I'm trying to come up with a design to try forging here at the shop. Never made one or used one, don't even know if I've ever seen one in person, so I'm always looking to learn. To prevent your bowl from cracking, place it in a plastic...

    Making a file knife...

Feral, a chunk of known alloy steel costs $20 shipped to my door and it will have enough metal to make at least two good blades. And because I know the alloy, I know how to heat treat it properly to maximize the blade's potential. People that use lawnmower blades are simply guessing and...

    Making a file knife...

Making a knife from a file is rather easy. Or, it's no harder than making a knife from a known alloy of quality carbon steel like 1084 or 1095. The pattern you are wanting to make is certainly a rather easy one, relatively, but I would wonder if the file is wide enough for the length you want...

Made me a simple leather apron, tips on what to treat it with?

I sure wish I could have found a sheet of leather that big! I had to buy an apron for my blacksmithing, but it's a good apron and I'm happy with it. To soften the leather, a lot depends on what type of leather it is. Generally, mink oil, neatsfoot oil or tung oil will all do the job to one...

"Secrets of the Castle" BBC2 just finished

Dang. Seems like it's not available in the US, yet.
