    Ruddy Hell, Not Again..!

Or find someone else with the same jacket and stick their hand there instead, leaving yours free?

    Buffalo Special 6 - astonished

My hood only goes on a few days a year. A bobble hat (merino/possum job), or bobble hat with Sealskinz cap under with a neck warmer is normally enough. I do find the zips a bit annoying sometimes, you can put your fingers in the way of the storm flap so it keeps out or the zip track, some of the...

    Celeriac is surprisingly tasty.

I hate celery too, but celeriac chips are nice. I grew some this last year under cover but produced no tuber. I'll try outside this year maybe.

    Best hiking socks?

I have a few pairs and they're all wearing thin at the heel, so guarantee or not, I don't think they're very tough :) But, as I said in wellies, so some slip compared to anything lace up I'm sure.

    Best hiking socks?

My almost favourite socks are Darn Tough Mountaineering over the calf socks but they're about £28! Super comfy, the reason I fork out a stupidly stupid amount of cash is that they are the only ones I've ever had that do get far enough past my chunky calves to stay up. The heels wear thin though...

    Are you a coffee head?

I have all manner of coffee producing devices but keep coming back to an MSR mugmate or knock off version on amazon, made in an insulated Snow Peak 450ml mug which I think I bought in about '95. That means if I make a tea in a noninsulated mug at the same time then the coffee is spot on when...

    Do it NOW!!!!

From an obit. today of Jean-Jacques Savin, lost at sea a few days ago, after crossing the Atlantic in a barrel in 2018/19 he decided his next adventure was to swim the Channel, but then changed his mind to solo rowing across the Atlantic instead, aged 74. Go big or go home. Another I think of...

    Book suggestions

I was recently recommended both the Roger Philips book and the Geoff Dann Edible book for carrying in the field, both being really very chunky, to give you a better chance of 100% identification. You need every aspect to match so exclusion seems to be as important an approach, ID-ing non edible...

    What are you currently reading?

Libyan Sands; Travel in a Dead World by R.A. Bagnold Possibly along similar lines to oldtimers suggestion above? Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall Eye opening in how a countries outlook can be dictated by geography. I think one review read something like essential reading for...

    Self sufficient jerky

The only way I get to keep jerky long term is if I freeze it. Then at least I can't eat it all in one go!

    Do it NOW!!!!

My wife and I were lucky enough to travel in a camper for a while, and nearly everyone who came up to us and ask what we were doing said they wished they could do, or had done, the same. But there never really seemed that much actually stopping them :(

    Power banks

Wrong answer, sorry, but I just got a Nitecore LR60 lantern which has a pair of whomping 5000mAh 21700 batteries in it. Comes with adapters to put 18650s in if you want too. My previous Nitecore lanterns have been very good, this one is a good balance of output, directional light and size but...

    Uk Pineapple Guava.

Given a chance I think most things will grow up here. Garden Cottage Nursery has some good info, and sell some good plants, many types from NZ, that are doing well for us http://www.gcnursery.co.uk/gardeninfo.htm Edited to not sound like a nugget hopefully.

    Uk Pineapple Guava.

Isle of Lewis so perhaps not unexpected :). They have a little windbreak all round them but they're still only about a foot high. No disease and I'm sure too tiny for fruit but not dead either so could be worse!

    Stainless scandi folder suggestions?

Thank you all. I will investigate with my eyes open this time! Sorry. I had though I would get a Kershaw Emerson but the handle is a bit thin. Current solution is a Mora Eldris weirdly, light and pocket sized, most importantly easy to "deploy" with gloves, just a bit short for slicing. Nice though.

    Stainless scandi folder suggestions?

Hi folks This question is of course because I'm a lazy git and could look through the millions of blades for sale, but maybe someone has a favourite, or is there a "no-brainer" out there? I have and very much like a stainless Garberg with the plastic sheath. I live near the sea, kayak...

What have you done for the Environment Today?

I bought some second hand plastic 5l mayo tubs off fleabay which were maybe a quid each? They would do as good a job perhaps for fish, cafes and restaurants may have armfulls of the like. Nicely fitting lids securely clip on although not air tight which is weird. Recently cut holes in the top of...
