You are exaclty the opposite of me, but i'm never in a canoe :)
my experience with syntetics and durability is bad. I have woolen items that are over 10 years old and like new. Synthetics will degrade to useless on UV only. Sparks, pointy things, abression in my experience all better with wool...
I have lived from a hammock for more than a week many many times in temperatures from -10C to +30C, so i guess a week without power and water in my own home would be no problem. I have a river nearby and a waterfilter so shelter and water are taken care of....
The only problem are other people...
I have a beautiful Mikko Inkeroinen puukko for sale to fund another purchase.
There is a waitinglist for knives from Mikko, so you can now own one without the wait :)
Unused, new in the original box with certificate from Mikko.
Handle made of Birchbark
Leather sheath, also a work of art.
Blade...
In my opinion there is only 1 material you can spend days outside in without worrying about durabilty, the weather, cleaning, smelling, and that is wool. Everything else is not up to fire, smelling, ripping, different weather...
should be no problem, keep it in your checked in suitcase, i have done it both ways. Make sure there are no handlematerials like mamoth bone or other species that are not allowed to be imported.
I am in the Netherlands and travel to London by train for less then £100. It's cheaper and faster for me to travel to the UK pickup my knife and maybe post another in London.... i might setup a "postal service" ;)
I have a couple of knives i'd like to send to the UK, but am worried that the receiver will have to pay customs/tax for them.
Is there anyone who has send a knife TO the UK in 2022, and if so, did the receiver have to pay customs/tax?
It had some very light use, but nothing i little TLC couldn't handle.
Did buy it second hand, i was looking for one for years. Happy with it. It is slightly larger then the GB.
Forget goretex and everything that "breathes", maybe it works in snow but for me it is just overpriced rubbish. If you need to depend on your clothing buy a 100% waterproof jacket with good zippers and good wool undergarment.
