I use a rule of finger as a rough guide, having watched various deer and then measured their slots.
Muntjac slots tend to be the length of the first joint of my index finger

I've just returned from and evening with Will Lord making bow strings and admiring his variety of laminated bows.

I have a couple of friends there and can base myself with them. I would post this as a new thread in the forum because I think it will generate a lot more help and advise ;)
The ones I make from Boot wax tins last for well over an hour. They take about 12 minutes to boil a billy 10cm billy can full of water. I have also used them to cook meals on.
