Can I take the ferro rod please? On offer, a waxed cotton zipped pouch. Pictures to follow (anyone know why I can't upload them?)

Guess why this is (probably unique)?

Damn you, John Fenna :D Trees weren't planted at a specific hammock spacing but there's enough of them to give me a few options - more and more each year! Lake is mine, dug it about 3 years ago...

Thanks. Gives me some peace in this mad world. Even after all this sunshine, bits of the field are still boggy. Made a hell of a mess trying to do some mowing with the tractor the other day

Guess why this is (probably unique)?

Plastic ninja gets the prize! :D Only planted 7 years ago too... have already coppiced some of the alder (which have started resprouting) and one of the biggest ones is about 10" in diameter. Was a bit worried they wouldn't hold up but they seem strong enough... we'll see again tonight!

Guess why this is (probably unique)?

No. Just in East Sussex It's where we park our cars, there's 3 there at the moment but it's on our land Might have been a few cones, but hardly unique. Midges foiled by the net and although the trees do sway a bit, that's hardly a unique feature I'll leave it open for a bit longer...

Decided to camp out last night so put my hammock up. Can you guess why none of you have probably hammocked like this before? Edit: won't even let me link images from my own hosting... http://creffield.com/pics/bushcraft/hammock.jpg

I have one of the BCUK knives with the spalted scales. Original sheath was horrible but mine came with a superb sheath made by someone on here (black sheep?). Scales are cracked but haven't come off yet. Beautiful tool.

    DIY (primitive) drybags?!

Waxed/oiled cotton should be fairly waterproof. Otherwise, I suppose something like an animal bladder or stomach would serve a purpose.

    Ramsoms are up

I transplanted several clumps but none of them survived past the first year. If I can get hold of any more I'll try again

    Help with fruit leather

The stuff that dried out doesn't have much taste and it's still a bit soft. Looks like beef jerky - perhaps I should market it as a vegan alternative!

    Help with fruit leather

Tried making medlar cheese over the festive period but despite copious boiling, it still hasn't set firm enough to turn out of a mould to slice. Thought I'd try putting some in the dehydrator to see if I can dry it to fruit leather but it's so sticky, I can't really roll it out or cut shapes...
