    *The* Gift-It-On Thread

Sometimes this thread drags on and sometimes it races by! Let's see how we get on now... So, the pouch I'm offering will be something to put on your keyring, big enough to hold a credit card. I make them out of various materials, many of them reclaimed, but generally make them lined. I have...

Home made Signal Panel/ sit mat

The feet and attachments normally have a Simanco number on them - you can look these up. The Featherweights have quite the following and should be more than capable for what you need.

Home made Signal Panel/ sit mat

Court order? A vintage machine would cope with most stuff - there are normally loads on Facebook Marketplace for very little money. For really heavy duty you'll want a walking foot machine but they tend to be pretty expensive. If I were you, I'd buy a cheap vintage machine and learn on that...

    Upcycled hi-viz jacket pouch

"Pretty good" :D - damned with faint praise :D :D :D This was made on a vintage sewing machine that I think I paid £12 for (only because the auction house starts all bids at £10 and there is 20% commission) - you can pick them up incredibly cheap and they're so much better made than modern...

    Upcycled hi-viz jacket pouch

Yes, about that big. The strips are about that wide but I sewed a few of them together. I hung it on a shrub and shone a torch at it from about 20m away - as you predicted, it's like a beacon. I took a video but it just shows a very bright spot in an otherwise black background.

    Upcycled hi-viz jacket pouch

Thanks! Feels good in the hand and would be useful for camping as you could find it in a tent or hammock

    Upcycled hi-viz jacket pouch

I had a hi-viz waistcoat issued by my company but the branding has now changed so I can't use it. I spent an enjoyable hour this morning picking it apart and then sewed up this little pouch using the retroreflective stripes for the outer and the yellow fabric for the lining. Should be easy to...

    Fear of the dark

    Trip Report A rude awakening

It might have been the age of the strap but I think it was mainly due to there being a knot around the carabiner and the straps being too low (thus making me having to tighten the hammock too much to get it off the ground at all). I've fixed the strap and moved it up higher but I need to sew the...

    Trip Report A rude awakening

My preferred hammock spot has trees that are a bit more widely spaced than ideal so I have to put my straps up high and there's a lot of tension on the whoopie slings as they're still pretty flat. With it being so hot in the UK at the moment, I decided to hang last night but didn't set up until...

    Best budget camping axe?

I bought 2 of their splitting mauls because I thought they'd break but after a few years and a lot of abuse, they're still going strong, although the handles aren't really long enough

To stock or not to stock, that is the question

You are quite right, CEFAS is the body that I'm registered with. I'm aware that movements must be registered.

To stock or not to stock, that is the question

I have the necessary licence from CEFIS. The pond has a small rivulet running into it from a spring higher up (all my springs are on the higher ground, weirdly) and the overflow is a small weir into a 300mm pipe that flows into a ditch. In warmer weather (remember that?) it doesn't reach the...
